West Virginia's legislature has a bill (with co-sponsors) making trans people being seen by minors "obscene" with a five year person term.

There's a lot of reporting and pretense that the new wave of anti-queer legislation - a record number of bills, by the way - is limited to targeting drag performances.

That's just the PR cover. It very much is not.

This is not a surprise, especially with the seriously increasing levels of far-right in the state.

There has been a serious movement of them taking over the Eastern Panhandle... which is a great staging point for them to flow into DC.

(My area just featured in a Washington Post article, regarding the VDare castle.)

Honestly.. it was both-sides.... but it also captured how fucked up things are here.

The coffehouse people? Grifters, to the point that I have serious questions regarding them being in the castle employ. (The guy who got forced to do that retraction and leave town? Connected to them. They also tried to set me up early on, and thankfully an old contact warned me in time)

The press was brought in by the coffee shop.

At this point? I would not be surprised if the plan is not to kill the tourism in its current form, and the area become a whites only resort area. (Sigh)

Soon it's going to be impossible to run SF/F conventions in certain states unless they either agree to ban minors or police their attendees.

Not that the ultra-MAGA's care; I don't think SF/F fandom in general has a place in their Christian Nationalist worldview.
