solarbirdEarlier this week on Mastodon, I was talking about trying to cast a socket for the annoying hardened steel 3D printing nozzle that wasn't hexagonal so couldn't be removed with sockets. I don't think I posted about that here? But I may have.
Anyway, I was kind of on the way to doing something, but Attoparsec milled one for me instead! (Thanks, Fishy! :D)
Now I have a complete set, at least for the nozzles I use:
Nozzle held in socket, socket held in my favourite small hex driver tool. (It's like almost $20 and so much more expensive than many but trust me, it's worth it.)
This is so much better than anything I'd've tried to cast lol:
Also look how pretty it is particularly inside! My phone didn't quite want to focus this close but you can clearly see the colours from the hot bluing. That's not exaggerated - if anything, it's brighter in person:
I've already used it and not even just to try it, I needed one of Those Damn Nozzles already since Friday and now it's just ding! Seriously if you have an FDM printer don't use those stupid little pressed metal wrenches, get some sockets and a tool handle, 100000% worth it.
And don't buy nozzles that aren't hex unless you have a friend with a metal shop who offers to mill a custom socket for you. He actually let me run the vertical mill on a few of the cuts to make the hex part and I'm like "oh shit, I could get so goddamn fiddly with this" which is both why I should get into it and why I never, ever should. xD
