a projects-in-progress storage system
Dec. 28th, 2022 08:53 pmSo this is the first assembly of the projects-in-progress rack I was thinking about - just leaned against the treadmill rather than up on a wall and don't mind the over-long struts they'd be cut down in a final version.
Colours are arbitrary, I ran out of white. But you could do a rainbow or whatever. As long as there's at least a little strength to it. (My projects in this category are all quite lightweight. Electronics stuff, mostly.)

Wall Attachment System, not actually on wall
This is one standard-height (yes, I've made a standard lol) plate attachment, hooked into a wall clip. It would get attached to a properly-sized box for the project. Or you could make a shelf, or whatever. Standard plate size is standard.

Wall Attachment System, not actually on wall, with one plate
And here are a bunch of boxes attached to the plates, which can then be placed whereever you want on the wall rack. You grab a box, you've grabbed a project.
Obviously, you can make this as tall as you want to, and print as many plates as you want.

Wall Attachment System with boxes attached
Here's a picture of the plates taped onto boxes. Since this is just a test assembly, it's all just tape, though there is double-sided tape under the plate.
The lip at the bottom of the plate serves as an anchor, attaching to the bottom of a pair of wall attachment points. This is for improved stability when extracting boxes.

Attachment plates attached to boxes
I'll spec a single-height plate soon, maybe for shelves or something. Obviously it won't be difficult to spec out.
You could also of course just print entire boxes. I'll probably make some for the project, though they're just, you know. Boxes. And shelves I guess. I should do shelves. And baskets, which was the original idea.
And again since you could print them in whatever colour you want that could get really pretty and there's a lot to be said for that.
