Turns out that Hive and Post don't give you the ability to share links to posts, making them truly closed services, working to wall you in as much as possible.

This is terrible. In this way, they are the literal opposite of mastodon. Please do not use these services.

eta: Since I apparently need to clarify: there are no links to your posts made on those sites. If you post on Hive or on Post, you can't share a link to that post.

This is a classic walling-in technique since it requires your friends to get accounts to see your posts.

So you mean there's no equivalent to a URL like https://solarbird.dreamwidth.org/1853520.html or https://twitter.com/LizardOrman/status/1523361338227150849 that lets you point at one specific post?

Correct. If you post there, you cannot point people to it from off site.

Or so I have been told by people who know these things. JWZ (Netscape, Mozilla) is my source on this.
