For the record, I point and laugh, but Elon Musk imploding Twitter is a nightmare.

This rampaging egomaniacal fascist-sucking screaming shitheel's forty-four billion dollar immolation completely encapsulates everything wrong with this country, and I'm honestly sick about it.

And the reality is that there isn't really a replacement. I like mastodon and I like tumblr and they both have issues and they both have some really strong positives, but neither of them are what twitter was.

Twitter was unique, and this jackass is willing to burn $44B to destroy it so TERFs and fascists can hurl unlimited abuse at persecuted populations and make racist jokes for a few months before it falls over completely and comes back up as a better-known Gab.

"Make fun of me, will you? I'll DESTROY THE WORLD!"

You're not fucking Iron Man, Musk. You're not Tony Stark in this picture.

You're Obadiah Stane.

He said he's going to appoint someone else as CEO, so I'm hoping it will not be messed with as much. He'll still want it under severe cough-up-money pressure, but a different CEO may understand how value flows from lots of free users to corporate advertisers to Twitter Corp.

given the number of (former) employees pointing out explicit weaknesses everywhere, I'm really not seeing how they get through the weekend. (at this point, they're pretty much shouting, "Hey, DDoS People. Please hit us.")

I worry that he's perfectly okay with that comparison. Either Jeff Bridges' movie performance, or the comics version as originally developed by Dennis O'Neil, Luke McDonnell and "Doc" Bright.

He's sitting there secure in the belief that HE ALONE has the grit and sheer intellect to bring this STREAMLINED AWESOME corporate vision to life because nobody else has dared and they've been caught up by all the "this is why we went to Galt Gulch" things that COMMON people get dragged down by. His exhortation to HARDCORE SLEEP IN THE OFFICE SUCCESS should've been the spark that brought out that inner fire in everyone else and drove them to kill themselves with labor for the greater glory of Elon.

And it makes me think of Sears/K-Mart, which went from retail powerhouse to historical footnote because the libertarian brain trust at high levels decided that making business units savagely compete with each other would enable the invisible hand to make them all more awesome and efficient.

I assume at some point soon they'll be a company entirely staffed by H1-B visa holders, though.

or a company being sold off for parts by Elon's creditors.
