Ooooo, lookie what I found.
Jan. 9th, 2003 09:31 pmSo last night, I found one of the missing floodlights.
When whoever went at our house yesterday at FUCKOFF IN THE MORNING did it, one of the things they did was trip the security light's motion sensors. Unfortunately, it's mounted down in easy reach, so all they had to do was unscrew the bulbs. (They were gone when we - and the police - were checking things out.)
But they didn't take the bulbs with them. I found one really late last night. Stupid, stupid criminal.
I phoned the north precinct, and for the first time ever when I've had evidence, they were actively interested. An officer just showed up; I redescribed the case to him, and he said, "Oh, this'll have their prints all over it." Plus, he said the way I handled it was exactly right, so as not to mess it up its evidentary value. Plus, he was thrilled that we said they could just keep it, since that's better to have in the event they do find someone and they do go to court.
I was just really amazed. This, at least, is so completely unlike any other experience I've had with the police in this town that it's not funny. This is me going, "Oh! This is how it's supposed to work!"
So! That's fun.
I've got the reward sign up, too. Maybe one of 'em will rat the other one out. Then there could be all sorts of fun. That would, in fact, be downright keen.
Fingers crossed.

Date: 2003-01-10 10:40 am (UTC)Police tend to be more respectful of 'Taxpayers' and business owners. And if you are nice to them and work with them, they tend to remember that as well and are more likely to go the 'extra mile' for you when it counts.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if they knew down at the station that you are one of the main people pushing to 're-gentrify' the area and improve it. Police tend to be very much in favor of those kinds of activities as it makes their jobs safer and easier.
