solarbirdokay okay okay I have discovered something hilarious
The Oster convection toaster oven unit that I got with credit union rewards points, it ships showing °F but you can set it to °C, it's not in the manual but you can do it
and if you do
it gives you SO MUCH MORE TEMPERATURE CONTROL HOLY SHIT
Seriously if you set it to operate in °F (as is the default) it gives you a low of 200°F with 25°F settings granularity, and you can also use defrost which is 150°F but if you want anything between those you're on your own
...but if you put it in °C it'll give you 60°C and up in 10°C increments!
and some of these are, like, not necessarily good settings for food safety! Defrost is out of the "safe" range and the oven kind of manages it for you with timers and such and doesn't show the temperature, so it's fine, but you can't get it directly unless...
UNLESS!
...unless you put the oven into Celsius mode at which point it's like the oven says "oh, okay. you know what you're doing. Have fun!"

It also just kind of assumes I need more precision, and though I admit I'd prefer 5°C (9°F) steps to 10°C (18°F) steps I'll happily take 10°C over 25°F any day.
(I imagine that's just being about round numbers, but still same effect.)
I wonder how common this is? For digital-control ovens, I mean, specifically.
It's not something most people are going to need, but... if that's you... try it! See if it works. And let me know! ^_^
much later eta: And if it loses power it reverts to F and I didn't keep a record of how to change it and had to find it again. So I'm adding it here.
TO CHANGE TO °C:
1. Power oven off, as in OFF off, as in unplug it.
2. Plug oven back in.
3. Hold Temp DOWN for three seconds. The display will change to indicate °C.
4. Press START.
You're good until next power loss.
If you have one that defaults to C and you want F for gods only know what reason, hit Temp UP instead of Temp DOWN.
