i am either a genius or an absolute idiot but y'know what the dishwasher is working so i'm good

I've ordered better-grade rubber bands.

(Silicone, even. High temperature tolerant and everything. Should work for a while!)

I love to tinker, but there are certain things I won't work on. High on that list are things which mix water and electricity. :-)

Na, there's no electricity in this part of the kit. Well, okay, there is, but only the heating element, and it's not that nearby.

Basically there used to be a pair of plastic tabs that held down the bottom water distribution bar (I forget the correct name, spins around) and also the telescoping assembly that sends water into the mid-level water distribution bar. One was already gone. The second broke when I tried to pry it out a bit to remove the assembly.

So all this is contained in a cylindrical housing with two openings where the tabs used to be. So I cut to size two child-safety electrical plug covers, put them pin-first into the little openings where the tabs used to be, and held them in place with rubber bands.

It's stupid, but it works a treat.
