The Facebook ad campaign was more obvious than just the one Nazi-used symbol. It's not that uncommon. But the fact that they placed 88 different ads with it, all starting with 14 words? That's less "dog whistle" and more "dog siren."

Trump just spouted off one bizarre claim after another in a Wall Street Journal interview — here are the highlights
June 18, 2020

https://www.rawstory.com/2020/06/trump-just-spouted-off-one-bizarre-claim-after-another-in-a-wall-street-journal-interview-here-are-the-highlights/

[EDITOR: JESUS BURY THE LEDE WHY DON'T YOU - Trump says yeah, his comment about “When the looting starts, the shooting starts" WAS A THREAT.]

President Donald Trump on Thursday gave an interview to the Wall Street Journal in which he made a number of outlandish claims about the Chinese government, former national security adviser John Bolton, and even people who wear face masks.

Here are some of the highlights from the president’s latest interview.

1.) Trump says China may have deliberately allowed the novel coronavirus to spread to the United States in retaliation for his tariffs.

Trump told WSJ that there was “a chance” that the spread of COVID-19 outside China “was intentional,” and he suggested that it helped China get even for the tariffs he placed on their goods.

“They’re saying, man, we’re in a mess,” Trump said of the Chinese government. “The United States is killing us. Don’t forget, my economy during the last year and a half was blowing them away. And the reason is the tariffs.”

The president admitted that he had no evidence to back up his claim and said it was based only on an “internal sense.”

2.) Trump says he hired John Bolton to make foreign leaders fearful that he’d go to war with them unless they gave him what he wanted.

The president spent a good deal of time trashing the man whom he’d appointed as his national security adviser, and divulged his true rationale for bringing him into his administration in the first place.

“The only thing I liked about Bolton was that everybody thought he was crazy,” Trump explained. “When you walk into the room with him, you’re in a good negotiating position, because they figure you’re going to war if John Bolton was there.”

3.) Trump says that he actually was threatening to have looters shot in his now-infamous tweet.

Trump earlier this month issued a warning to anti-police brutality protesters against rioting and looting during demonstrations by tweeting, “When the looting starts, the shooting starts.”

Even though Trump then denied that he’d meant it as a direct threat to looters, he has now admitted to WSJ that he did mean it at least partially as a threat.

“The president said the tweet could be read as either a threat or a fact,” WSJ reports. “Asked how he intended it, Mr. Trump said ‘a combination of both.'”

4.) Trump calls COVID-19 testing “overrated” then brags about how many tests the United States has done.

“I personally think testing is overrated, even though I created the greatest testing machine in history,” Trump said of his administration’s response to the pandemic.

Trump then explained that the testing “makes us look bad” by revealing how far the virus has spread.

Facebook finally removed Trump campaign ads with inverted red triangle — an infamous Nazi symbol
Update: Facebook removed the ads
Written by Kayla Gogarty & John Whitehouse
Published 06/18/20

https://www.mediamatters.org/facebook/facebook-let-trump-campaign-run-ads-inverted-red-triangle-infamous-nazi-symbol

[EDITOR: The triangle by itself might be passed off. But they ran 88 ads with a 14-word lede. If you don't know the significance of 88 and 14 to neonazis, look them up. Once is an accident, twice is a coincidence, three times is enemy action.

As one other commentator noted, they don't do this on accident. They do it on purpose, because they enjoy it.]

Update (6/18/20, 1:15 p.m. EDT): Facebook has removed the ads in question following this post and public backlash. A Facebook spokesperson told Media Matters in a statement that “We removed these posts and ads for violating our policy against organized hate. Our policy prohibits using a banned hate group's symbol to identify political prisoners without the context that condemns or discusses the symbol.”

Media Matters president Angelo Carusone said the following: “Despite violating Facebook’s terms of service, the ads were approved by Facebook in the first place. Yet again we see another example where Facebook can’t even meet the bare minimum standards they set for themselves — either because they’re incapable or because they’re in cahoots. Either way, the pattern is alarming.”

Since June 3, the Trump campaign has been running Facebook ads fearmongering about “antifa.” On June 17, the campaign added an inverted red triangle to some variations of the ad -- a symbol the Nazis used to designate political prisoners.

Criminal investigation into Phoenix Mayor
by Madison LaBerge | June 18, 2020

https://fox26medford.com/criminal-investigation-into-phoenix-mayor/

Earlier this week, a woman alleged Phoenix Mayor Chris Luz hit her with his car during protests in Medford. There is now a criminal investigation into the allegations against him, according to Medford police.

On Monday at a Phoenix city council meeting, Mikala Johnston confronted Mayor Luz. She claims he drove his car through protestors in Medford and hit her, when they were calling for justice for George Floyd. The alleged incident took place June 1st.

One city counselor publicly denounced the Mayor’s alleged actions at the council meeting. Medford police say there is an active criminal investigation but no one has been arrested or charged.

Mayor Luz declined to comment at the council meeting this week. NBC 5 News reached out to him again June 18 via email, as of the publication of this article, we have not heard back.

Elderly Buffalo Protester Getting Death Threats
June 18, 2020

https://www.tmz.com/2020/06/18/buffalo-protester-pushed-cop-death-threats-home-hospital-release/

The elderly man who was violently shoved to the ground by cops in Buffalo can't go home whenever he's released from the hospital ... because there are threats against his life.

Martin Gugino's attorney, Kelly Zarcone, tells TMZ ... it's not safe for the 75-year-old man to return to his residence when he's healthy enough to leave the hospital ... because he's getting a constant barrage of threats.

We're told the threats are flooding in from folks who mistakenly believe a false claim going around about Martin -- that he's been arrested 300 times and has a long history of inciting riots.

Martin's attorney says in reality, the senior citizen has only been arrested 4 times for peacefully protesting, and only one arrest resulted in a criminal charge for trespassing, and he was acquitted.
