The GOP's natural efforts are to turn anything into yet another macho bullshit dickwaving competition, and it's starting to show up in polling numbers, and I hate everything. Meanwhile, Donkeyballs Donald continues to extend his grip on power and support fascists.

Trump’s purge of Inspectors General continues, as he removes the one who reported critical shortages of protective gear in hospitals.
Trump will not allow the truth to be told, and that will cost more American lives.
After 60,000 deaths, the silence of Republicans is shameful.

Previously, the CDC listed just three known symptoms: shortness of breath, cough and fever.

Fauci warns states rushing to reopen: ‘You’re making a really significant risk’

With the White House’s social distancing guidelines expiring Thursday, leaving states largely in charge of deciding how to move forward, Anthony Fauci warned local leaders to avoid “leapfrogging” critical milestones in an effort to reopen their economies amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
“Obviously you could get away with that, but you’re making a really significant risk,” Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said Thursday evening on CNN.
Fauci, who has repeatedly cautioned against prematurely easing restrictions, said he already noticed that some states and cities are not adhering to the steps laid out in the White House’s recently issued guidance on reopening – a plan that administration officials say will now replace the expired federal social distancing measures.

A ‘feminine’ crisis? Something unique about the coronavirus may be widening the political gender gap

I’ve been getting a barrage of feedback on the big bind we have facing us — which is when, and how, we should go back to normal life and work amid the continuing threat of the coronavirus.
Most of the hundreds of emailers or callers commented pro or con, which is great. There’s a subset, though, that takes the debate to a more primal level.
“Maybe you want to sit inside and cower behind your keyboard, not me,” wrote one reader. “Must be terrible to be so afraid of life and death.”
“If you are so fearful, Danny, then don’t go out, stay home and read your books,” counseled another.
“I call (Gov.) Inslee’s plan the ‘Panic in Place Order,’ ” said another. “Everyone’s following along like a flock of scared sheep.”
These writers — surprise — happened to all be men. And it turns out the testosterone approach to fighting the virus is not just a quirk of my email inbox. Two months in, one of the fascinating developments of the pandemic is that it seems to come with a pronounced, and widening, gender gap.

Sweden recorded its deadliest week of the 21st century after controversially resisting coronavirus lockdown measures, according to a report.
At least 2,505 Swedes died between April 6 and April 12, amounting to 358 fatalities per day, Swedish outlet The Local reported.
“It’s important to clearly state that these are preliminary statistics, and that the death toll, especially for the most recent weeks, will be revised upward,” said Tomas Johansson of Statistics Sweden, a government agency that compiled the figures.

Trump calls protesters who carried guns into the Michigan Capitol 'very good people' and says the governor should 'make a deal' with them

In a tweet on Friday morning, President Donald Trump described protesters in Michigan as "very good people" and suggested that the governor should strike a deal with them.
On Thursday, hundreds of protesters — many of them carrying guns — descended on the Michigan Capitol to oppose Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's extension of the state's stay-at-home order by another two weeks, to May 15.
"The Governor of Michigan should give a little, and put out the fire," Trump wrote. "These are very good people, but they are angry. They want their lives back again, safely! See them, talk to them, make a deal."
It is unclear what kind of a deal Trump was referring to. While Whitmer extended the order, telling citizens to stay home and keeping nonessential businesses closed, she also relaxed some of the restrictions in the original order.
Michigan residents are still required to follow social-distancing guidelines but are now allowed to travel between their main and second homes, go out boating, and play golf.
Michigan, one of the states hit hardest by the COVID-19 pandemic, is not close to meeting the Trump administration's own guidelines for reopening economies and lifting stay-at-home orders, one of which is experiencing 14 days of declining positive cases.

House panel: White House blocks Fauci testimony on coronavirus

The Trump administration has blocked Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, from testifying on the coronavirus pandemic, a House Appropriations Committee spokesperson told the Washington Post on Friday.
Why it matters: Fauci has often given Americans a reality check on the administration's response to the coronavirus and has garnered bipartisan credibility for his straight-forward approach to the crisis.
Flashback: Fauci testified in March that America's system of making coronavirus tests available is not set up in a way it needs to be.
