Chuck Wendig's thread - read it.

But while we're at it, I'm gonna add: during the height of the fundamentalist wars against LGBT people? When things were at their worst?

They did exactly this to us, all the time.

They'd literally say queers were rampaging violent child-molesters who rape children and give them AIDS because it's the only way we can reproduce, and if we got mad? If we showed the least anger about it?

We were the problem.

They'd argue for our extermination - literal illegality and concentration camps like they have children in now, so I guess Trump finally gave them what they wanted - and we had to be oh. so. fucking. polite. or we'd be dismissed.

This is now the entire GOP.

Not everybody went along, of course. But lots did. Queer Nation - RIGHTLY - went full-on rage. I played it situationally.

Which meant that I had to sit there and smile and discuss rationally why they shouldn't exterminate me and everyone like me based on their own lies.

I can't tell you how much that hurts you. It really fucks you up. (Ask any person of colour, though. I'm white, I've got that privilege, but they still wanted me very explicitly very, very dead.)

And they will play this game exactly as long as you let them.

So do not let them. They aren't going to change - the fundamentalist leadership still wants us all wiped off the face of the earth - and being polite back mostly just lets them continue to lie about this being "reasonable disagreement."

Even when playing the game, you hit that point. Hard.

It is not reasonable to argue for concentration camps. It is not reasonable to kidnap children and keep them in dog cages. White nationalism is not reasonable, it is an abomination.

And must be treated as such.

The entire point of the "be polite" horseshit is to normalise, to make obscenities into "polite conversation" and "reasonable debate."

If it's already considered that - as being for queer extermination was in the 90s - then you have to cope.

We don't have to cope with this.

And we shouldn't.

And we mustn't.

The only proper response to all of this barbarity - and it is barbarity - and to all of Trumpism, and to all of the modern GOP...

...is righteous, funnelled, controlled, civilised...

...rage.

If you saw someone kidnapping children to sell on the street, right in front of you, how would you react?

How should you react?

Because it's happening, right now, in front of somebody. Act accordingly.

It doesn't even matter which GOP abomination it is.

Act. Accordingly.

May I repost this? If so, would you prefer to be attributed or not?

It's very telling to see so many people in the media in particular beating the "civility" drum. I've had a theory for a while that the animosity between Trump and the NYT is basically a pro wrestling kayfabe narrative. And by criticizing Trump but bleating for "civility" after the baseball incident, Morning Joe and Mika want to have their cake and eat it too. They'll mutter Strongly Worded Protests when Trump commits his worst atrocities, but no one who is a major media personality actually wants Trump to go away. He's their cash cow, and the more suffering he inflicts, the higher their ratings soar.
