I took Zoe to the vet.

"Going to the vet" had all kinds of big-adventure scariness, particularly since she's pretty much just never been out of her cage before - at least, not since she was transferred into it from the tiny cage they used to keep her in. (I used that one to get her to the vet.)

She seems to be in fairly good health - very good, given the situation she came from - though the blood work won't be back until tomorrow and the vet is sure she'll have really high cholesterol readings. I got her wing feathers clipped so she can't hurt herself outside the cage, and I also got her nails filed a bit too, just to avoid scratching and stuff.

But the neat thing was that once we got her away from the cage in the vet's office, she got a lot less hostile. The big shock is when she hopped up onto my fingers without any trouble. She even let me change her from hand to hand a couple of times. She specifically liked me more than she likes the vet, which means that she's bonded onto me to some degree. And again tonight, though getting away from the cage was another adventure involving towels, once she was over on the chair perch, she was almost friendly. And, again, definitely good about hopping up onto the hands. So yay!

While at the vet, she also let me preen her feathers for a minute or so. Not so much tonight at home - I tried a couple of times, she got all bitey - but I didn't think she'd let that happen for weeks, if not months.

So. I need to read up on safe stuff for her to do while outside the cage. ^_^ Polly, unfortunately, is going to be an Issue. We'll have to work on that with the cat.
