the oddest thing about the wait wait live show last night

annathepiper and I went to the live show of Wait Wait Don't Tell Me at the Moore last night, and it was pretty entertaining. And it was about two hours, with a longer monologue, and all that, and generally we had a good time. The Moore is a lot better venue for shows like that than it is for music, so the sound was good.

But the weirdest thing was that the California joke not at California's expense got a roar of approval. 45's administration has made us actual allies. You don't have to be that old to remember when that was just unthinkable.

What the fuck, world? What the fuck.

You got to see Wait Wait... Don't Tell me? I am green with envy! :D I couldn't get over there when they were in Milwaukee, and Madison-Chicago is a pain in the butt for their usual shows. One of these days I need to go anyway.

I have the impression that the home theatre is surprisingly small!

It takes about two hours, which is a little longer than I expected, but not too much, and it was quite a bit of fun. I'd definitely say it's worth it.

Don't leave us hanging: what was the joke?

I don't remember. Something political and related to the week's news, but they didn't air it. They do a lot more than they use on the air, and particularly on Friday shows (vs. Thursday shows), they drop the FCC-safe filter and can go to down. We even had different panellists than the ones on the aired show.

(Tho' some of this will, as I said, show up later in clip shows and the like. They've started airing bits of the Friday shows then, to provide legitimate new material.)

It is funny, though - at least one bit of Friday's show did make it onto the air, in his monologue. It was the same bit both times, but the deliveries were different, and there was one piece in particular that I know was Friday's. It probably had better timing or something than the Thursday version.

(They also do drop-ins at the end of the Friday show, right in front of you, where they have to do re-takes of lines. It takes them about 45 seconds, they've got it down to such an art.)
