Anna and I biked to the Norwescon Volunteer Picnic in Woodland Park, and then to the zoo. It's only four miles each way, and easier than I thought it would be. It is kind of busy - Greenlake Boulevard in particular is busier than I expected - but given that, it's really pretty pleasant. And, there was a picnic waiting!
I hadn't been in to the zoo in... gosh, maybe three years now. I'm not sure exactly how many - I'm thinking two, but it might be three! I like the new exhibits that I saw - particularly, I'm glad they closed down the old primate house. I think they should keep the old 1911 building - hey, it's the same age as my house! - since it's pretty much original to the zoo... I suspect they could use it for something, even if it's just offices. But I'm quite glad they're mot using it for animals anymore. All the display areas were just too small.
The best part was that I finally got a good look at the wolfpack. They weren't all together, but I saw all of the members. ^_^
The picnic was fun, too. Most of the folks there I only see around Norwescon meetings and stuff, so I haven't seen them since the convention. I'd probably enjoy going to more NWSFS meetings, even, and a lot of people show up at both. I don't even know why I don't go, other than just kind of never quite getting around to it.
I'd probably go to more if they were in biking distance. Or if they had zoos. ^_^

Norwescon?

Date: 2002-08-10 08:18 pm (UTC)Anyway, http://www.norwescon.org is the official web site. It's kind of in an in-between state right now because Norwescon 26 hasn't really started ramping up yet - there won't be a concom meeting or anything for another couple of months. The volunteer picnic is the only thing Norwescon does in the summer, partly because there's not really anything much to do, and partly because getting people together for business meetings during the summer is not an option. Nobody'll do it. They're too busy not being inside. ^_^

Date: 2002-08-13 03:52 pm (UTC)I KNOW the first meeting was before Sept 11. Because I really met the Pawtowskis before then. Hrm maybe it was the weekend right before though?
I've been rather anxious this year to have heard nothing about meetings yet.
