Seriously, this is like the canonical hard drive head crash. This should be some sort of textbook photo or classroom example piece. It’s goddamn beautiful in an elegant-termination way.

If the canon Widowmaker from Overwatch made a hard drive crash, this is what it would look like. Pow.

I’m just glad this was not a studio hard drive. It was one of the old laptops, and had failed a couple of years ago – did I mention that I am dead serious about cleaning out acres of old junk going into the new year? Well, I am.

But… damn. This is almost worth keeping.

Ooo, a dead drive.

If it wasn't shock induced, the other side of the platter should be undamaged; they make excellent (and indestructible) purse (or survival kit emergency signalling) mirrors.

The little neodymium magnets are great for sticking to the tops of screwdriver shafts to give them screw-retaining powers. Just bend the aluminium mounts with a pair of pliers and the glue will come away.

I have fairly substantial sets of both at the moment - to the point where I'm telling artists, "if you have an art need for these, let me know." :D AND MY COLLECTION KEEPS GROWING as I'm going through this closet and testing/wiping/destroying_if_broken hard drives. O.o
