Who do I sound like, anyway?

I'm setting up a Myspace Music page (yes, yes, but people expect one) and one of the things it asks is who you sound like. The most common single response I've received, by far, is Led Zeppelin. I think that's ... confusing, but I'll put it in. But who else? I don't want all the answers to be lulzy. XD Click here to listen to some songs if you haven't but want to now.

pentangle or fairport convention? mostly because of the acoustic folksy feel, which i assume is what the led zep thing is about too (cf led zep III etc)

I really can't think of anything else that sounds like your music. It actually took me quite a while to get into it, because the sound and feel are so different from anything else I listen to.

That's what most people say. That's awesome in some ways, but it puts up a huge barrier at the same time. (Which I'm used to - I'm not joking about the whole "elfmetal" thing. I mean, it could probably use a little more metal, but until I can pay somebody to make a good electric zouk, I can only go so far with that part of it. At least the strings are steel. XD ) That unfamiliarity turns most people immediately off; it's alien to them, and they have no idea how to listen to it. (And that's hilarious, given that it's mostly in 2/2 or 4/4, and using western tuning and instruments.)

If I'm very, very lucky, I'll be able to build some sort of little scattered cult following. I can hope, anyway.

In my case, it works pretty well, and once I got used to it, was actually an attraction, since I like things that really don't sound like anything else. Hence my fondness for Tom Waits and Wimme Saari, among others.

A lot of that, I think, comes from your vocal delivery, since I don't recall as much adaptation when listening to your instrumental stuff. I can't think of anyone else with that kind of fast-paced, rolling, but still percussive singing style, somewhere between Trad and Hip-Hop, maybe.

Yeah, I have some hip-hop in there. I don't really know how since I don't listen to all that much of it, but I've found myself doing my lyrics on top of stuff on KUBE once in a great while, and it kinda works that way. But whatever it is, it's mine! It's what I got. Hopefully people will tell other people about it and the people who would like it will hear it eventually. ^_^

I've played some of your stuff for a few people, but haven't gotten any converts yet :(

But finding the audience is really the hardest part of doing something totally unique like this. Once you do find them, you've got 'em hooked, because there's no where else to go for it :)
