How often is this really happening? Seriously: Parents managing the job hunts of their adult children? Companies altering hiring practices to accommodate this? Really? This is so weird to me. It also smells like mostly media bullshit, but I'm curious.

Can 2012 come and go already? Meet the New Bomb Shelter Crazies. More here. On a related note, but without links, I heard an ad for end-times survival housing down in Pierce County on KIRO-FM the other day. Seriously, what the fuck. ("End times" was their language, not my reading.)

In arty stuff:And in disgusting news that we all already knew, Col. Lawrence Wilkerson (ret.) says in a court filing that Mr. Bush and Mr. Cheney knew most of the Gitmo prisoners - the "worst of the worst" - were in fact completely innocent, but didn't care:
Referring to Mr Cheney, Colonel Wilkerson, who served 31 years in the US Army, asserted: “He had absolutely no concern that the vast majority of Guantánamo detainees were innocent ... If hundreds of innocent individuals had to suffer in order to detain a handful of hardcore terrorists, so be it.”

Nepotism is as old as employment. Parents managing their adult childrens' job hunts is just an extension of it, I figure.

During the reign of the Bush II Dynasty, NPR's "Fresh Air" had an interview with a lawyer for a guy who spent 2-3 years at GITMO, being tortured and all that fun stuff.

The guy's "crime?" He was a Muslim living in Sydney, Australia, who made public statements about how he didn't like the United States. The CIA grabbed the guy (illegally of course) off the streets of Sydney and flew him to a couple of "black" prison sites for a little pre-incarceration torture - then to sunny GITMO!

If not for a persistent wife and equally persistent lawyer, this poor (and innocent) guy might still be held at GITMO.

Other examples are guys "sold" to U.S. forces by a neighbor who wanted the guy's land. (I shit you not.) The soldiers would offer money to people, so they used the chance to exact revenge on people they didn't like, or people who had something they wanted - like land or a beautiful wife.

Plus they got paid for selling out their innocent neighbor. The hapless and incredibly stupid Marines that bought these guys and shipped them off for the usual torture and sleep deprivation, had no proof these guys had ever uttered a word about terrorism.

When this bullshit came to light "they say" they killed the program.

OK, I admit, my family's known around here, and I've gotten a couple of jobs because of my last name. But bringing your parents along on a Job Hunt?

I thought is was bad when they started harassing College Professors about their kids' performance in class, but I guess even that wasn't enough.

It's the logical extension of them harassing college professors.

I believe that the Mayan calendar ending on Dec 21, 2012 is not the end of the world. It's an end to thier calendar, only. Kind of sort of like a Y2K issue. It's just numbers. And if the Mayan's were around today, they would have corrected it years ago.

I was down in the Yucatan peninsula last summer, and our tour guide in Progreso, who identified himself as a descendant of the Mayan peoples, went to great pains to address that point. I got the distinct feeling that the entire region wishes it would hurry up and be 2013 already.

I noted that both of the job-hunting articles were at least 3 years old: pre-recession.

Today, I am willing to bet that the parents and kids are elbowing each other out of the way to get at the jobs. Especially the kids, since it seems that many graduates are not finding jobs. And the system is about to disgorge another flock of them into the world.

Sad, really.
