And here you fucking go.
Oct. 1st, 2009 10:17 amThe US government under the Bush administration specifically tortured a specifically innocent man that they specifically knew was innocent of anything in order to get a false confession. He's been granted a writ of habeas corpus - after the Obama admistration tried locking him up forever anyway on the basis of his torture-derived and knowingly false confession. They wanted him detained indefinitely, presumably as part of the torture coverup. That makes them guilty, too, because they knew how this all went down. By which I mean:
Oh right. Mr. Obama and the Democratic Party are firmly for covering this the fuck up, and Mr. Bush's successors and the GOP are for more of it. Well, screw you guys. All of you. I've been right, you've been fucking wrong, now it's fucking out in fucking court and you know what's fucking going to happen? FUCKING NOTHING. Congratulations, you fucking win. Enjoy your goddamn third-world torture state, pigs.
...it indicates that at least one senior interrogator recognized that the Bush administration's refusal to recognize that there were innocent men at Guantánamo -- and it has been clear for many years that hundreds of innocent men were held, who had no connection whatsoever to any form of militancy, let alone terrorism -- had set in motion a system in which, whether voluntarily or not, all the innocent men at Guantánamo were expected to make false confessions, either so that they could continue to be labeled as "enemy combatants" on release, to maintain the illusion that Guantánamo was full of "the worst of the worst," or, as in al-Rabiah's case, so that they could be tricked and transformed into terrorist sympathizers and facilitators.Happy yet, you fucking fascists? You got a defence for this? No? How 'bout a whole fucking truckload of prosecutions. Anybody up for that?

Date: 2009-10-01 08:22 pm (UTC)We probably drive way too damn fast, but I haven't yet gotten a ticket for punching it on the highway. Army decal on the rear deck maybe has something to do with that. ^_^
One lesson learned there in the boonies: don't waste your coin on 'winter tires', as they are worse than useless in that climate. Put on good sticky snows, and only take them off for (at most) three months per year in high summer.
Where I lived, in the mountains southwest of Calgary and snugged up against the Continental Divide, it could (and would) snow every month, so I just kept the snows on year-round.
Noticed the bizarre habits of Seattle drivers during the December storms, where I-5 was littered with enough wrecks north of town, plus fragments of blown tire-chains, that I began to wonder if the Highway Patrol was planning to re-enact Napoleon's retreat from Moscow.
As to subject matter of original post, well, brrrrrrrrrr. I have the rare joy of trying to earn my living in all three of modern empires, and they ALL scare me, these days.

"No."
"What about that one?"
"No."
"Hey, it's a Yank!"
"PULL HIM OVER!"

Date: 2009-10-01 08:33 pm (UTC)Likewise, in Alberta, the Edmonton city cops always had a hate-on for people with BC or Saskatchewan plates. BC because they were reputed to be more likely drug mules coming in from Lotusland, and Saskatchewan because those vehicles tended to have glorious mechanical defects. Or so it was thought, anyway.
Dated an Edmonton cop once. Gave it up when he asked me to handcuff him to the bed. Nope. :)
