I tell ya, there's nothing to put you in the holiday spirit like getting some anti-gay hate literature stuffed in with your groceries. How can these people be such screaming dickheads that they can't give it a rest for even one long weekend?

Goodness. Who knew that Clark Gable had risen from the dead to preach against homosexuality?

And not even a nod to Lot's wife!

That's awful, but I cannot help but notice the loving detail with which the Sodomites were drawn. It's like they enlisted Tom of Finland to do the art.

Damn, they really, really are! Hel-looooo, not-so-deeply closeted Chick Tract artist! Come out, and use your powers for good instead of evil!

Now that's kind of boggling. In theory, if these idiots object so strongly to homosexuality and OMG WON'T SOMEONE THINK OF THE CHILDREN, shouldn't they object to, y'know, handing children some graphic homosexual imagery? (And such lovingly done imagery at that!)

But then, there's no asking logic of hypocrites.

(It's okay to get turned on by gays if you set them on fire afterward!)

No, they don't seem to ever take a break or do any of the other things they were enjoined to do like feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, visiting people in prisons. I'd LOVE to see them trooping in to do any of -that- stuff, but -that- stuff takes effort. It takes none at all to drop a Chick tract into someone's grocery bag.

First off, it boggles my mind that anyone would even suggest that some sort of "gay alliance" would get attention by poisoning a blood supply. Gay != bioterrorist.

Second off...I am amused by this foaming-at-the-mouth about Sodom and Gomorrah. Yes, the towns were filled with persons of incredible wickedness, but where does it say anywhere in the narrative that their particular brand of eviltry was Teh Ghey?

I'm Jewish. My people WROTE this stuff, and we have a completely different tradition regarding the perverse eviltry of the residents of Sodom and Gomorrah. Most of it has to do with the way these wealthy cities would torture and kill wayfaring strangers who happened to pass through them. Good old fashioned bloodshed, nothing sexual about it.

You know, I'm a mormon, but I found the tract offensive inherently (which is no surprise, considering the source. Most of us don't like Chick tracts either) and also the fact that it was in your grocery sack. I would be bothered and surprised to find one in my grocery sack, and I live in rural Kentucky.

There was a movement when the US army went into Iraq this time, of people saying "not in my name." That's how all of my christian friends have felt about Jack Chick since we first heard of him. The man is a blot on christianity.

Oh god, I didn't even know Chick Tracts were being put out anymore. There are interpretations of the Sodom story that says that it was destroyed *because no one would help the angels*, which isn't the same as saying it's about TEH GAYZ.

And yeah, right on with the Tom Of Finland!

I am glad to hear your are mad in a different way than usual (I don't know how to explain this better, but I am less worried about you than I have been in the past).

There are some great Chick Tract parodies out there - maybe it's time to make some new ones up? :)

In an attempt to *parry,* I will simply point out that there are 'Cthulhu Chick tracts.' Honest to Godtopus, if I had a million of 'em I'd be slipping them in people's purchases as well.

does no one ever notice that Lot, in an effort to "save" angels (beings of gret power who, by definition, should not be able to be harmed) offered a MOB his two VIRGIN DAUGHTERS?!?!?!?!?!

THAT is the offensive part of the story. it never, in the bibles, says Sodom and Gomorah were cities of homosexuals, just says its full of people who are somehow "wrong". but its okay to offer a screaming mob of madmen VIRGIN DAUGHTERS TO RAPE. this is the world of a Kind, Loving and Just God.

ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!

i am so sorry you were subjected to that.

Not just okay to offer up yor two daughters (who gives a flying fuck whether they're virgin or not?) to get raped by the mob, but admirable--Lot is the good guy that the kind loving and just deity of the old testament decided was worth saving in this city, aparently in part because he tried to save the angels by giving up his daughters to be raped. The townspeople, who were very picky about who they raped and wanted the angels instead, certainly weren't an improvement, but why Lot would get singled out as 'good' for this showing of fatherly love always escaped me. Back in my high school fundie days when I was thinking about going to seminary, I who read a new testament chapter every night at one point found the old testament horribly depressing and faith-shaking (not that there isn't crap in the new testament too, but not quite so much or so horrible); this story had to at least tie for the worst. Of course, I also hated the book of Job and found it rather horrifying, instead of an inspiration like so many do, so I'm just weird. (I maintained said faith for a while by concluding the old testament was a crock and God decided to send Jesus where he did because of calculations of where he would do the most good, and the parts where Jesus defended 'every jot' of the old testaments were not actually said by him, as they may well not have been)

More relevant, I didn't know the chick tracts existed outside of certain ultra-conservative regions or that they still existed at all, and for what it's worth even a lot of fundies like I used to be think they are fucked up. All that said, sorry you had to deal w/that shit.

No, Lot got saved because he was Abraham's nephew. There's a conflict in the Jewish tradition about Lot, with some scholars claiming him as righteous and others as wicked. He's kind of a thorny character. He's greedy (see Genesis 13), and this greed is what brings him to Sodom in the first place, and keeps him there. And yet, he's hospitable to strangers, even at the risk of his own life, which is virtuous.

I'm willing to bet it wasn't a store employee. The church I grew up in encouraged us to make or buy tracts and stick them into library books and grocery items and shit so that GOD MAY USE THEM

Guess firey letters in the sky and disembodied hands writing on walls is out of style these days, lol.

Even if it wasn't an employee, they can at least keep an eye out for the damn things on their shelves. Looks like there's trash lying around. IN YOUR FOOD.
