Funny, it's nearly 1500 and yours is the first post I've seen on this. And you know what? I think that's a good thing, that being "out" maybe isn't such a big deal anymore. At least I hope it's not. Because, for one, having gender not make a difference makes us that much closer to not having number make a difference... and I rather have a vested interest in that. And for two, and this is second only because it's second person rather than first person, I have far too many friends, you and yours included, for whom gender matters differently than the dominant paradigm, and to wish them happiness means to wish that they can be who they are without having to worry about it.

And frankly, I think the icon says it all. Anybody who feels threatened by the fact that you snuggle with someone whose anatomy is more like yours than like mine needs his gorram head examined. I'm not gonna push for a legislative mandate of this - that way lies true madness - I'm just stating a condition of need.

It's one of many that I've seen today, although I'd suspect my friends list is a little statistically wacky in that regard. :)

You'd think that with at least a third of my friends' list that I know of being at least something less than arrow-straight I'd have heard about it by now... a few years ago, it *was* all over the boards for me.

Maybe having posted myself I'll stir up a hornet's nest...

It's still a big deal a big deal in other parts of the U.S. When people get bored with the pride parade in Waco, Texas I'll relax. And let's not forget places like Saudi Arabia, where the legal penalty for queerness is death.

Point. I think there's been some progress in Waco, or at least in, where's Larry Craig from, Idaho? i.e. they haven't lynched the guy yet...

Saudi Arabia? Not so much. Touche'.

It's possible. I live in the middle of Seattle (so, no real big deal there), but I work out in boring suburbia. I probably would have worn something appropriate (whatever that means) except, well, I just plain forgot. :)

Got to school this morning, saw the LJ posts, went "oh darn", etc.

I'm the other way, I live in Suburbia (but not *too* boring) and work in the middle of Seattle...
