And then there was one
Nov. 18th, 2010 07:43 pm“Stay Away,” the 13th of 14 tracks of Dick Tracy Must Die, is a song for the desperate – a song of the kind of person so burned, so abused, so bereft of trust that they are unable any longer to ask for help, but can only tell people to stay back, to stay away, not to touch her – with the tiny, dying ember of desperate hope that someone will understand and prove her wrong. But don’t count on it.
It’s paired, in concert, with “Shout at the Desert,” which is, in turn, a song for the lost. “Stay Away” also features the return of the Fake Drumkit, but this time, not for lulz. Enjoy:
And, of course, don’t forget the show: Saturday, 8pm, Bothell, Dara, alone in the Lyons’ Den. Come – if you have a taste for blood.

Date: 2010-11-19 07:19 pm (UTC)This one really hit home, and I kind of wish I'd waited rather than listen to it right before I have to go to work. I could really use some time to just sit with it for a while.
Well done.

Date: 2010-11-19 07:40 pm (UTC)The funny part is that live, this is read as a hoppin' dance tune. I get dancers almost half the time on this one, no lie. And yay! But it's funny. Apparently my rage is danceable XD

Date: 2010-11-19 11:07 pm (UTC)Truth be told, I really like that combination of cheerful energy and dark/messed up lyrics. It's one of the reasons I'm such a fan of Warren Zevon.
Actually, if I ever do get my shit together, musically, this is one I'd like to cover. I think it would work well with the shouty Black Metal/ElectroGrindCore that my foolings around have tended towards.
Fortunately my shift today was short, because I had this mixed up in my head with Hide from Me, Shout at the Desert, California Über Alles, and a Korpiklaani song called Man Can Go through the Grey Stone. It was a weird couple of hours.
