The Times was right. Casino Royale really is the best Bond film in 40 years.

I was not expecting that.

I was not all that enthralled by the new Bond movie, although I like Daniel Craig in the role very much.

Casino Royale went something like this: Really cool opening scene, great stuff with Bond being cheeky, some fun but silly investigative work, then about 60 minutes of World Poker Tour, 30 minutes of kissing, and a dull ending.

I did enjoy James Bond driving a FORD. And I liked that he fucked up a lot to show his inexperience.

Also, WTF was the deal with the medkit in the car? I mean, seriously, THAT'S the gadget we get?

It does look good from everything I've heard about it. Nice to see that it's actually living up to what I've heard. I really want to see it now. I watched the original Casino Royal a couple of nights ago, the BBC had it on, though they cut out quite a bit of it sadly. To make room for comercials I guess.

Mm. I really liked the book Casino Royale, so to see them actually adopt a book probably added quite a bit to my enjoyment. I liked all the things you did, but liked the non-gadget approach - the "Back to Basics" Bond - suits me just fine. That's probably why I was one of the fairly small number of people who liked the Dalton movies. Don't get me wrong, the gadget Bond is fun. But I like the blunt instrument Bond quite a lot.

The problems of the poker sequence for me were bound mostly to the explanations the director apparently felt necessary to relay through secondary characters. They never felt any need to explain Baccarat, which I still don't know how works - why explain poker?

Obviously, it's completely unlike that one. I think you'll like it. It's faithful to the James Bond of the books, I think. It's not perfect - it's a bit longer than it should be, plus some of the gambling sections run long - but I really enjoyed it.

In high school, I read Ian Flemming religiously. Seeing the Casino Royale film this weekend, I reserved serious doubts of the role Nic Craig could pull off.

I was completely stunned.

From a die-hard bond fan, I can say THIS is the breath of fresh air we were hoping for with Pierce Brosnan, in terms of a non-cuddly, buisness-like 007
