No new song today. There are still plenty of you who haven’t listened to all the rest I’ve posted, so hup to it. Maybe new song tomorrow, though. Probably Wednesday. Maybe Thursday but I hope not that late.
It’s very, very, very silly. You have been warned.

Date: 2010-10-19 02:27 am (UTC)It sounds like you, the strings, the bass, are all trying for upper registers, and the song sounds a little flat for that. It's missing some deeper texture that you may not want, but I felt lost without it.
That said, the lyrics are damn good. The recording sounds solid, although there might be some hollowness behind your mic. The instruments are getting picked up pretty well, though, and your mixing is right on.
Feel free to ignore or delete this criticism.

Date: 2010-10-19 03:20 am (UTC)As for the voice - I'm not in falsetto at any point in Stars; I'm not even in pure headvoice, that's all chest/head mix, top to bottom. That said, I'm very much aware of my voice issues; my entire oesophageal tract is essentially made of scar tissue (ENT people: "how do you... talk?!" Me: "I open my mouth and sound comes out. It works for me...") and very difficult to work with; it's only this year that I've been willing to release any recordings of it at all. It certainly makes singing an adventure, and I continue to work on improving it. I'd obviously rather have a better vocal instrument, but, well, I have what I have, and it's what I have to work with.
Oh, and wedging the American "R" on the word "stars" sounded like ass. I tried it; it's left elided intentionally. (That's also bits of my native accent showing up; I had to learn the American R, the American S, the American ... well, you get the idea. It doesn't come naturally.)
