I did a lot of gardening today. Anybody want firewood? A dead tree - I think it's been dead for at least a year - started falling today and got caught by blackberries, and I moved it into the right direction and brought it the rest of the way down. If I actually know you and you're Seattle/Kenmore/Uplake local and you want to chop it up for firewood, let me know! It's probably, I dunno, 20 feet tall? 25? "Much taller than me," which I acknowledge is kind of vague. It's not very thick, so you won't have to split it; I mean, I was able to lift it. It has no branches (left) so it's just the trunk, ready to section into fireplace-long segments with whatever saw you have.

There's another one that's also in a similar state that could be pulled the rest of the way over, too, if you want more.

After some clearing today, I managed for the first time to walk all the way across the giant retaining wall in back. It's taken a while just to cut away enough growth to be able to do that, and even now, it's kind of a dodgy proposition. The bigger point, though, was to have more sunlight come down to the west side of the house this summer, in particular, for the apple tree, pear tree, and two roses that are back there, which I trimmed and fed while I was at it. (I also trimmed the front rosebush; this is the most traditional rose-trimming I've ever done. It's much more than I usually do, but since I know these are all modern roses, recently planted, so I feel safe doing it. It's still less severe than most people cut roses back.)

Hm, what else? Oh yeah, more ivy, down off the telephone pole in front of the house, and I turned over the vegetable garden bed with intent to plant seeds tomorrow, weather permitting. It's turned out very well, I think; a little higher in organic matter than is probably optimal, but still pretty good.

Okay, that's about all for now. Tired, g'night!

I could take that tree for firewood. Not sure I'd have time to come cut it up until after Norwescon, though.
