You think you know a houseplant - you think you've had it as long as you can remember, you you've been hauling it around a stupidly long time, you think you understand it and know its habits and what it likes and what it doesn't, and you think you've got a pretty good grip on what it's going to do, and then it goes one day and does this:

Surprise White Flower

That appeared this morning. Seriously, all at once. Yesterday it was a bundle of green leaves. Today - surprise! A white flower.

It has a scent, too. A tad soapy, kind of hard to describe. Anybody know what it is? Has it done this before and I've just forgotten? Seriously, I just don't know.

In other news, the probably-final Xander show last night did, in fact, rock the house. [livejournal.com profile] daspatrick denied all actual capability, but he is, in fact, a pretty good bassist. And they played all their good songs, even "Neutral Carrier Hotel," which they put off until last.

And then I came home carrying the cloud of Stank, and I've just now realised I didn't wash the pillowcase today. (Blue Moon Funk gets into everything.) And it's 10pm.

Fuck.

My houseplants usually just die.

Matter of fact, I think that would make an excellent post: a picture of the dead houseplants I have hanging in crocheted hangers in my entryway. Nobody's ever mentioned if they find this worrisome or not.

The flower is gorgeous! I've never had a houseplant to do anything but die.

I love the Glassware Nr. 2 photo.

Yep, it's a gardenia. And they're *seriously* picky about the conditions under which they'll bloom, so congratulations on your perfect houseplant care!

I am oddly incapable of sustaining houseplants in my actual house. I say oddly because I am *perfectly* capable of sustaining them in my office.
