Jul. 20th, 2005 10:47 pmToo angry about this, the latest draft of the proposed Iraqi constitution, to post the normal between-politics comment posts, and the latest installment in the GONE INSANE?! series has just been blown out of my head.
If what we get out of Iraq is a religious state that subjugates women to Islamic law (as the latest draft of the constitution does, see above), then there fucking need to be some fucking impeachment proceedings the very fucking next day. Important safety tip: do not fucking try to minimise, rationalise, or provide apologetics for this with me; do not try to say that even if it happens, it's okay, or it's better than what was there before, because for women, it sure as hell fucking isn't, and if you don't fucking realise that that's half the population being put under religious subjugation, wise the fuck up. In short: Do. Not. Fucking. Try.
The probable impending alliance with Iran, of course, is just kind of the cherry on top. The interim Iraqi president visted Khomeini's gravesite over the weekend. Yay.
In other news, an assortment of flowers are almost ready for pictures. They aren't ready yet, but should be soon. Until then, have this:

Sunday's miles: 2.0
Monday's miles: 1.2
Tuesday's token: 0.1
Wednesday's miles: 2.0
Miles out of Hobbiton: 281.95
Miles to Rivendell: 176.35

Date: 2005-07-22 03:51 am (UTC)Of course, though you appear to have a rather minimalist idea of what those reasons were. I am disturbed that you appear to take me for a moron.
The high-stakes gamble neoconservative theorists wanted to make, and got to make, was both too high-stakes and too unlikely to succeed to support. The theory wasn't hopeless; in fact, it wasn't even bad, on paper. It's the practicality that I didn't buy. It makes great sense in a board-game world.
Too bad we don't live in a board-game.

Actually, speaking as someone who wrote, argued, and marched in the streets again the invasion, and assuming it doesn't get pulled together - in fact, no. It's not "refreshing." It sucks. It sucks a lot. Particularly for the Iraqis. "YAY MY POLITICAL THEORY WAS RIGHT, THE LIVES OF MILLIONS OF PEOPLE HAVE GONE TO HELL!! HOW REFRESHING!!" Honestly, what the fuck are you thinking? Are you trying to be a caricature of left wing politics?
It's people like you, Solarbird..
Date: 2005-07-25 06:11 am (UTC)This makes me miss Seattle. So very VERY much. I've been living in San Diego for a year now, and it's an intellectual wasteland. Even my hick hometown in Montana has more substance to it. Down here, I can't throw a rock into a parking lot without hitting a Jesus fish, or worse, one of those Calvin/Suzie praying stickers.
And as someone that was in Westlake Center and had a "chat" with some well armed folks back in March 03, I hate being right. I honestly hoped that I would be wrong, and that Bush might actually pull this off...
I would love to be wrong about the asshole some day. Just once.
What scares me is that at times I get the feeling W (and his followers) think Islamic law is too much a liberal thing.
