Singing log
Oct. 19th, 2004 12:02 amTwo days of having a place to sing with a microphone and music and all that stuff again, and of having
risu's keyboard set up as well. I hadn't sung with any of that in a while! Maybe I'll keep a log, like
lyonesse does for riding!
1. The top of my range seems to have gone up a little rather than down as I'd expected it to have done. That's unexpected given that I haven't been working. It's only two days, but today I've been singing the high A rather than rasping it out. (Bb, on the other hand, is a different, sad story. And B does not yet exist. Alas!)
2. Stamina? What stamina? Sad, sad, sad. So gone. Oh well, second time was a lot better than the first.
3. Songs today: mostly Amarilli and Vittoria; yesterday, mostly Caro and Pur de Cesti or however you spell it. And scale exercises both days, of course. La!
4. Oh, right. I also played around with microphone/monitor speakers vs. microphone and headphones. Not sure what works best yet. Fiddle fiddle fiddle.
5. I'm wondering if some of my tone has gotten better. More likely, I'm not hearing as many problems as I would have heard before. ^_^ But I am hearing my tendency to go flat, so that's something.
Bedtime!

Date: 2004-10-26 10:14 am (UTC)Be careful of going too far though as sharp singing tends to indicate pushing and tension.
Also, look at yourself in the mirror. When you're singing flat are you opening your mouth? Are you lifting your soft palatte? Try singing the same thing (esp. the High) with a bit of a 'smile' in your cheeks. Not spread, but just lifted.
Finally, make sure that your ribcage isn't collapsed.
