1. No DSL service yet. The modem is here, the due date is here, the service is not.
2. Good news: the DSL modem has a web-based configuration menu. Bad news: you can't use it unless you're configured via DHCP, and it isn't in the manual anyway. But it works, which is the only part not handled by Verizon, but instead by the modem manufacturer. Good on them.
3. The DSL modem was, in fact, shipped in the wrong configuration. This is the new modem that they weren't even supposed to ship us that was supposed to be preconfigured for us. That's fixed now.
4. We called for 786k by 768k service. That's what we're supposedly paying for. The modem detects 544k by 448k, which I presume is what you get if you ask for 512k symmetrical. Verizon's internal DSL system monitor thinks we're set up for 768k by 128k, which is PATHETICALLY INADEQUATE FOR OUR NEEDS. Not to mention "not what we're paying for."
5. None of the above seems to be true anyway, aside from the "0 by 0 symmetrical" situation we have right now in reality, since Northwest Link can't do a level 2 (DSL level) ping test of us, which means that the modem is not, in fact, actually training up, despite the fact that its little LED and status monitor says it is. Personally, I suspect that they've connected our service to someone else's line and someone else has our line. However, setting up for DHCP doesn't work either, so more than that is going on.
6. Verizon continues, of course, not to talk to me. I had to spend almost an hour on the phone with Northwest Link/Infinity Internet as it was; they've told me to hang up and that they'll call me back after they go yell at Verizon for a while.
Man, I wish I liked beer. I could knock back a few right now if I did. This is fucking insane. Who do I have to SUE to get a working line here?
