Bush administration makes firing queers okay again.

Federal GBLT workers lose employment protection. The administration has been quietly removing "sexual orientation" from the list of reasons you can't fire someone over the last several months and stopped investigating bias claims against gayfolk (story here); some people complained to Congress about it; now it's official. You can again be fired from your Federal civil service job for being queer.

And of course, this also means that one can be fired for not being queer.

After all, how does one prove that one is not queer. You can fuck a MOTOS right on your supervisor's desk, but he or she can just claim that you go home to a lesbian fistfucking party or steamy bathouse every day anyway.

I remember about 10 years ago when someone from whatever office it is who handled that stuff came to talk to the UW's campus gay student/employee combined group meeting, her statement was basically 'someone at work might be offended by your mention of your same gender partner and/or your sexuality, so we can only protect you if you're really careful what you say'. it was really insulting. I worked someplace where there were otehr queer peopl eand it wasn't an issue so it wasn't a personal problem (and a lot of other people in the group were older and unfortunately might not have expected better of the UW) but still it really bothered me.
