I'd say that you really should see the Godfather, Parts I and II. It really is that good.
Lawrence of Arabia is definitely another great movie.

Godfellas: I grew up during and around the RL events in this movie, I remember all of it, including the cheesy commercials. This movie is a pretty good depiction of the Mob.

Bridge on the River Kwai, A very interesting war movie with a very interesting twist. Very good flick.

Se7en - Great movie UNTIL THE MIDDLE where Deus Ex Machina RUINS IT TOTALLY. Don't watch it, you'll hate seeing such a good movie ruined. (Obvious signs of a ham fisted director)

Treasure of Seirra Madre - if nothing else you have to see that classic line 'Badges? We don't need no badges!' Actually a decent movie.

Ran - Excellent cinematography, very well done story, great sets.

I'm surprised at how many of these I've seen. Actually more than you've got marked! I watch too much TV...

I've got Das Boot on VCR and DVD, you MUST watch it in German, English loses too much of the effect (I also have Casablanca on DVD and VCR)

What's the last line in the Maltese Falcon? (no fair looking at the movie to figure it out!) And just what is a gunsel? ;-)

Both American Beauty and Requiem for a Dream are fantastic movies.
Oh! And Donnie Darko. Really. I totally recommend all three of those.

Um... OK, you *have* to see the Godfathers, and To Kill a Mockingbird. Not necessarily in that order.

I saw Das Boot subbed. I've also seen parts of it in English. But that might be backwards. I definitely remember the subtitles, though.

The commercials for American Beauty really, really turned me off. That might not be fair to the film, but they really did. But I keep having people tell me I need to see it, so. Hm.

Parts of the original german language movie are in English, that's why watching it in German (with subtitles, nothing wrong with that) is so interesting. In the English language version you don't get to notice when they use English, and why.

I've seen less than you, but a few you haven't... as for the Godfather films (seen the lot, somebody lent me the dvd set), unlike everybody else frankly I think they're not all that. The first one is quite good. The second... eh, you might as well watch it. I wouldn't pay money for either, but if you can borrow them from somebody, or rent them I guess...

You should, though, see Shawshank Redemption, which I think is rather better. (Although it's a good idea if you know in advance that bugger all happens for the first hour or so - I mean, it's a decent kind of bugger all, but it might help avoid impatience if you know that ;)

I think the only others I've seen that you haven't are Braveheart (entertaining, missable), Toy Story 2 (godawful), Seven Samurai (good but in an old-film sort of way), and Leon (which I remember thinking was very good, but it was a long time ago I saw it).

Why did they turn you off? I am curious. I do not remember what the trailer was like, myself.
