So I picked up MechAssault a couple of months ago when it came out at the company store and played it a little while when we got it, but that's only so much fun particularly given that you can only play two people at once locally, and [livejournal.com profile] smeehrrr hasn't hosted gaming in a while, so now that we finally have XBOX Live, I'm enjoying the game a lot.

Anyway, I was playing on a bunch of games tonight after doing a lot of research on Chinese typography (and finding nothing so far - any suggestions for stuff I can find quickly? As in the next two days?) and cdragon ran the first one I jumped in on; I played a Kitfox and got killed a lot, like usual, which is no good because I love playing the Kitfox. But the weaponry is just... hopeless. So the next game, I played a Mad Dog and came in second, which is great. That game was fun, because four of 'em picked Elementals, which are basically power armour and generally kind of useless. (No, I did not come in second by picking on Elementals.)

Then we decided to play an all-Elementals game with mostly the same group, just for the hell of it. And I was doing really well in that, since I fly well and target well flying; the best sequence for me was shooting another Elemental out of the air while flying. (They have jetpacks.) But then with about six minutes left, cdragon declared "okay ONLY LASERS!" and we all went to firing only lasers and suddenly we all turned into really badly choreographed Star Wars infantry. And it really looked like Star Wars, too, because the elemental lasers turn different colours when you get power-ups. So there were green and red and purple lasers flying about every random-ass direction and nobody could hit anything and it was unbelievably funny. At least, to me. ^_^

I like cdragon. ^_^

I had fun experiences like that back when I was playing CounterStrike on only a couple very specific servers (Bullrabbit's, for one). it was always the same group of people goofing off and having fun, and the games were usually pretty even (except on unbalanced maps, which often sucked a moose). But every now and then BlackJack (BullRabbit) would decide "hey everyone! NO GRAVITY" for a short time. That was always kind of entertaining.

i miss team MP online games, but they just stopped being fun when the l33tst3rs took over and started using wallcheats and maphacks and aimbots and other annoying crap.

Reminds me of the time [livejournal.com profile] nostriluu (he doesn't really use LJ, but what the heck) and I played on a Quake 3 test server with 32 players at once, all of them apparently using rail guns.

And since I can't seem to find it on the net anywhere:

At 640 by 480, the world is bright and peaceful.
There's no war because people can't see well enough to aim.
At 800 by 600 isolated conflicts break out,
as people with fairly good framerates are able to shoot at each other.
At 1024 by 768 the first world war begins.
People launch missles using auto-aiming bots when necessary.
By the time we reach 1280 by 768 or whatever the resolution is,
the world is over.

Chinese typography? I don't generally think of those words together, so I'm not exactly clear on what it is that you're trying to locate. Did you try searching under Chinese characters? I especially liked this (http://www.ocrat.com/chargif/) page that uses animation to show you how to draw various Chinese characters. Anywho, I found a lot of different sorts of pages using that as my search criteria. Perhaps that will be more helpful?
