The MAGAts are demanding our pre-emptive surrender. Why do you think that is?

I have spoken and written many times about the American left’s love affair with failure. If you read me much, you’ve seen some of it.

I have also spent a lot of time doing my damnedest to make those I can reach fall out of love with failure. That’s more important now than ever, and it’s for one particular reason: the very same reason in fact that the MAGAts are working a massive demoralisation campaign and demanding a pre-emptive surrender, with a fleet of memes about inevitability and the futility of resistance. They’re working that line so very hard in fact that to the experienced observer, they’ve tipped their hand.

They’re working it because they know something I know:

We win this if we fight.

We have to actually fight, though. Not just say we’ll fight, that’s not enough. We have to actually do it.

We have to try to reach our Trumpy family and friends yet again. We have to shore up the people we know who could lean that way. We have to get the left and the young engaged again, and I’ve got plenty coming up about that.

We have to do all the things people who didn’t go into politics on purpose don’t actually like to do. The uncomfortable things. The tiring things.

We have to do them over and over and over until it’s done.

Not gonna lie; we have a lot of work to do.

But if we do it, we win.

And best of all, this is pretty much the last year they can win.

They know that, too. That’s why they’re so desperate; that’s why they’re working so hard to make us give up, to quit, to just say “fine, we deserve it, go ahead. Take over, punish us, end the Republic, I don’t even care anymore.” It’s all so they don’t have to face another free and fair election, because they know that this one is their very, very last shot, for a very, very long time, and their reaction to that is “From now on, no more free elections, only elections that we win.”

And that is not a winning campaign for anybody.

Neither are the details. Just look at what’s happening now with Project 2025. People are starting to find out about it, and they fucking hate it. They recoil from it, in horror, in revulsion, just like they recoil from Trump once they see who is actually is, and not the celebrity image they have in their minds.

That’s why we win this if we fight.

Hell, if we fight well enough, it’s not just a win. It’s a swamping. It’s an absolute annihilation of everything Trumpism stands for. Oh, sure, they’ll do better than the Tories just did in the UK, thanks to all the geographic gerrymandering – but they’ll still be done.

And why is that, do you ask?

It’s because some of us have been fighting this war for a very long time, longer than you know, longer than you’ve wanted to know. I’ll write about that, too, on another day. But what you need to know right now is that we got here with elections basically legitimate – which was no goddamn given, believe me – and that we also managed to get a generation of queer kids to awareness without being all but destroyed like we were.

We managed to get a whole generation to adulthood at least kinda intact.

Some might say that’s called just doing right by the kids.

But others of us might say it’s called raising a goddamn army, and more of that army identifies as queer than identifies as Republican, and more of them are hitting voting age every. single. day.

All while the MAGAt base – the MAGAt voting bloc that carries them in elections – does exactly. the. opposite.

That’s why 2024 is their last shot, and why they’re going for everything – for all the marbles, for setting up a Putinesque/Orbanesque authoritarian regime where the only elections that are valid are ones that they’re guaranteed to win. Just like in Wisconsin, for the last decade plus.

But they’re late to it. Just a little. Because this year, thanks to a bunch of reasons – including, yeah, I’m gonna say it, COVID – they’re already past the tipping point.

They aren’t actually in charge anymore, unless we let them be in charge.

Unless we surrender.

That’s why.

That’s why we win.

All we have to do is fight. For reals. They have the money, more experience, the dirtiest of tricks…

…but they no longer have the numbers, and they know it.

Now you know it too.

They don’t have the numbers, and they know that we win this if we fight. So get back up off the ground and tell everyone you know, and then get back to work, because if we don’t just accept their demand for surrender, if we don’t just give up, if we, somehow, don’t decide we deserve this thing that I for one absolutely do not deserve, if we don’t just lay down and die for them, like they want, like they demand…

…we win this.

We do it well enough, it won’t even be close. And it’ll never be this close again.

Welcome to the turning of the motherfucking tide. Get back up, and get your fight on, because we have a war to win.

And we will win it.

All we have to do is fight.
