solarbird: (korra-on-the-air)

Once again, we need to be watching for Republican DeSantis to sign the “take children from trans-supportive parents” bill, Florida SB 254. I remind yet again everyone that taking children from a targeted group to be raised by others is letter-of-the-law genocide, and that the Lemkin Institute said what was happening was a genocide in progress back in November. It’s possible he’ll have signed it by the time this goes up.

Thankfully, Florida’s legislative session for the year is finally over. He’s got all the oppressive bills he’s going to get to carry with him into his presidential campaign. More will come in executive orders, but at least there won’t be so many bills to track for a while.

Microsoft’s AI is boosting fake stories about sex changes for toddlers on the MSN service, blindly furthering the extreme right’s project to eliminate trans people, reports Assigned Media. We’re going to see a lot more of this as editors and content controllers are fired and replaced with manipulatable algorithms.

Scientific American tries to explain the reality about puberty blockers in response to continual Republican and fascist lies about what they are and what they do. It’s a good goal, and useful information, so give it a read when your Fox or Newsmax-worshipping relatives go off at you.

Assigned has a rundown on the actual reality behind Republican/Fascist/Fundamentalist propaganda claiming that “even Europe is cracking down on trans” health care as an appeal to those who think of Europe as more civilised than the US. They’re seeing the same fascist upsurge as we are here, with a lot of the same results, particularly TERF Island and places like that.

DFR Lab has the data on the vastly expanded reach of Russian, Iranian, and Chinese propaganda operations on Twitter since Musk took over. Nice, easy to read graphs. This is what Musk is doing with Twitter, and what you help by being active on Twitter.

The guy who killed eight and injured a bunch more at the Texas shopping mall was a nazi, or at least, a big fan of nazis. Of course.

Florida:

Of course we know it, but they pretend they don’t; Republican Florida legislator admits straight up that Republicans absolutely hate “homosexuals,” so if you’re still thinking this will stop with trans people, please fucking stop.

Iowa:

Republican Iowa governor will sign the Republican bill rolling back labour protections for children, letting them work long hours in dangerous occupations because there’s not a single 19th century exploitation Republicans won’t support.

North Carolina:

Former Democrat Gives NC GOP Veto-Proof Majority to Pass 12-Week Abortion Ban, as what I’m fairly convinced at this point was a stealth candidate stole a progressive/Democratic district and flipped to the Republican party after being elected.

Republican Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson – who manages to be explicitly racist against Black people, declaring himself not Black – really, really, really hates all of us queers in ways only fundamentalists can hate. He’s looking at a gubernatorial run and you really, really can’t count him out. But then, by now, I hope everyone would know that.

Texas:

The Texas Observer has the numbers in their new article, 52 bills, and counting. This current legislative session is Texas’s most brazen attempt to eradicate our state’s LGBTQ+ community. After reading, you should throw them a donation or better yet become a sustaining supporter.

Wisconsin:

The extremely-gerrymandered Republican legislature of Wisconsin’s school voucher system funnels tax dollars to schools which ban LGBT people, because that’s what they want and what they do with power.

Wired has a second article on the big treasure trove of documents leaked from the fundamentalist pseudo-science stalking horse, the American College of Pediatricians. It’s good background information.
