We're starting to have data on Elon's "general amnesty" of alt-right, covid-disinformation, and botnet accounts.

JM Berger (Brookings Institute, MIT Press, The Atlantic) has a blog post up with links to hard data. It's around 13,000 known accounts so far. Of those returning, most of those associated with the January 6th insurrection and QAnon have become active again, but the older accounts - including a huge restoration of the older Russian botnet accounts which engaged in election manipulation - are less likely to have resumed activities, at least as of November 30.

The accounts which have resumed activity have generally picked up where they left off, with tagged attacks on the people they most hate.

At least it's now well confirmed that Russian botnets are part of the "amnesty."

JM's blog post contains a link to a Google Docs file of restored accounts with some annotations. You can browse, if you're curious.

Regardless, this is Musk Twitter, and why it's over and it's time to leave.

Wow screw you, Anker! I've bought a bunch of their shit over the years but to hell with this - they're blatantly lying to customers and not just not putting customer photo data on the cloud (in direct contrast to advertising), they're taking facial-recognition-processed photos, IDing the owner (and others?) and keeping the data after accounts go away. This is some serious bullshit.

Today in Elon Musk's Radical Free Speech news, higher-profile centre-left accounts have been being banned on Twitter after criticising Elon Musk and/or his companies, with the highest-profile accounts being restored later.

Mind you: they did the same thing to Chad Loader and then re-banned some hours later the same day, so that may happen here.

Anyway, the two highest profile people receiving temporary permabans have been Andrew Lawrence (Media Matters for America) and Dean Baker (Senior economist at the Center for Economic &Policy Research). Both are back for the moment, but, again, so was Chad.

Today I'm struck by Zuckerberg spending something like a billion dollars on the "metaverse" to create legless sausage VR avatars and meanwhile volunteer furries are beta-testing advanced finger tracking systems so they can use sign language in VR chat with PAWS, and not only does it work, it's like a billion times more enticing on every level.

social media billionaires are a mistake
