prototype 2a on 22/2/4
Feb. 5th, 2022 12:36 pmI printed up a couple of plastic grids and attached artificial fabric screening to it using hot glue to test whether something like this will make filter cleaning/maintenance easier by creating a layer separate to and above the charcoal. It would hopefully also extend the life of the charcoal filter.
I printed two, as one will have the grid on the top side, the other on the bottom side, as an A/B comparison. There's also a third area which is just the (very low density) fabric, which is also woven in a hexagonal mesh.
Anyway, here's me using my brand new New Year's gift printer to print the grid. Yes, I am actually using my 3D printer to make a prototype!

Oh yeah, I've got some initial readings from yesterday's laundry nodes, we're definitely getting a lot more recovered heat and humidity than with the old filter, even when it was first installed. That's what 4.1 times the area will do for you, obviously! It was even really too much - on the humidity side, anyway - so I blocked off half the output with aluminium foil and that seemed to get it down to a good number.
Amongst other things, this should extend the life of the filter a bit more, and also, it means some sort of sliding/blocking door panel is back on the table.
I just hope I have enough time to come up with some kind of final design - or decision not to bother - before it gets too warm to want to test anymore. I've got February, sure, but I'm not convinced that I have March.
eta: Oh I forgot, I do have a picture of the grid with mesh attached. One of them, anyway:
