Had good fun at the small but enthusiastic Rainbowcon I over the weekend; met a bunch of new people; Annie and Tim Walker and Dave Clement (the GoHs) are all really nice, and I may have recruited Tim into a bit of fan music silliness I started at one point and have been wanting to finish for a while. (He can play horns.)

There were workshops and lots of playing sessions and more workshops and also we did a whole set of songs about dead animals for some reason.

Why are there so many / songs about corpses?
Why did they all have to die?
Was it the bullets? / Or maybe a comet?
What was that thing in the sky?

Rainbowcon II has been confirmed, with GoH announcements on Saturday night: April 28-30, 2017, Seattle; GoHs Alexa Klettner (Germany), and Trickster & King (Ada Palmer and Lauren Schiller, together the band Sassafras). Details here.

These are the kinds of people for whom near earth orbit objects are made.

I mean, I'm not a Burning Man person? But a Burning Man for the 1% - and I'm not making that up, they are - just makes me start plotting target solutions, particularly when you get to shit like this - new age prosperity gospel for the delusional messianic masturbators of Silicon Valley:

During a wellness panel on 'Adventure Travel: Journey As Wellness', someone asks the instructor Fabian Piorkowski about privilege.

'We’re so privileged to come to these spiritual places – Further Future, Tulum – but not everyone can,' the audience member says, asking Piorkowski how he should reconcile that.

'It’s all about balance. We are the ones meant to be the air, not the earth,' Piorkowski said. 'So you have this group who can travel. The purpose can never be to enable everyone to travel because that would create imbalance.'

We are the ones meant to be the air, not the earth

These people need a superheated orbital object impact in the worst fuckin' way.

eta: I finally know this reminds me of. It's been nagging at me and I've found it.

At some point in Daria, Daria's mom makes a comment along the lines of, 'yes, I, too, spent the 70s wasting my time coming to superficial revelations on mountaintops.'

I don't remember which episode this is, but that's so very much what this is, only with extra posh on top and in the desert. I can barely stand it. It's amazing.

The American Family Association, an anti-queer hate group, on the "bathroom panic" they've been helping raise against letting transgendered people use washrooms appropriate to their gender identity: "we've already had people testing this, going into Targets, and men going into bathrooms, there is absolutely no barrier"

Once again: every part of this is an active construction by the fundamentalist right. Every single part of it. And one of the goals is to intimidate women and police femininity - as well as boost fundamentalist voter turnout in November, of course.

There are still zero documented cases of transgendered people misbehaving in washrooms; there have still been more cases of Republican Senators doing so, and far more cases of Republican officeholders in a general sense; there is now an absolute wave of intentional, political intimidation of women in washrooms, by the fundamentalist movement, to create panic towards and violence against transgendered people.
