solarbird: (korra-no-fucking-around)

As per Twitter last night, installed, it’s looking a little less like Star Trek and a little more like K-9. So I’m calling it dB-90.

There are a few more physical issues to work out (something rattles when loud), but it’s getting there. Here’s a video not loud, recorded after everybody else was asleep.

I was talking with Anna last week about Ted Cruz being a Christian Reconstructionist, a.k.a. a "Dominionist." Here's an article that I _don't_ agree is the 'best article ever' on this - far from it, in fact - but it'll give you at least a first-level look at what that all means.

Here’s the Best Article Ever on the Fact that Ted Cruz is Literally the First Openly Reconstructionist/Theocracy Candidate to Run for President

Rushdoony never died. He’s back and now called “Ted Cruz.” Here’s the best article I’ve read proving that Ted Cruz is a genuine Reconstructionist in what amounts to a conspiracy to turn America into a Saudi-style harsh theocracy.

Cruz is the real deal: a Reconstructist/Dominionist with ties to scary religious extremists.

You may not be familiar with these terms. So here’s a quote from my book Sex Mom and God that explains these folks a bit. Then after reading this quote please read the article by Frederick Clarkson.

It was first published in Political Research Associates. and is reprinted here in full with the written permission of the author.

The GOP have gone with the nuclear option - they will allow no Obama Supreme Court nominee a hearing. Since the current Senate will expire before next elections, that does mean in fact that they are refusing a Constitutional duty. This is, in fact, unprecedented.

I don't think it's unreasonable to call this a constitutional crisis, even if it's one that will play itself out on a timer. It rather combines with the "religion exempts you from law" line that the Republican party is pushing at state levels to become something akin to the nullification crisis of the 1830s to me.

It should also put the stake into any last remnants of the idea that the GOP recognises the idea of a "loyal opposition," or has any interest in governing with anything less than absolute power. The "permanent majority" party is still the "permanent majority" party; if the people are foolish enough to elect someone else, that doesn't count, isn't legitimate, and will not be allowed to function. And a republic cannot work that way.

eta: A good article on what happens if the Republicans keep the Senate, but a Democrat takes the Presidency, and the GOP decides to keep this going. Will The Supreme Court Just Disappear?
