solarbird: (music)
Heh, it's been a bit, hasn't it?

um, right, okay. Edmonds, Saturday afternoon; bit of a mess; the two-playing-areas system seems to have gone by the board after I was scheduled within that framework - thanks for telling me, guys, always good to know. The good playing area down by the fountain that I was promised (and had reserved) got handed off to some random group of guys I've never seen before instead of me; there were three groups of guys all playing areas of the market that (supposedly) weren't available for playing; tent-tag with the market manager meant I didn't even find him until my supposed stage-time (about 20 minutes of looking with everyone handing me different "I think I saw him go over there" directions, yay) and then being tossed off up at the quiet end of the market next to a truck.

I'm getting really tired of being given market rules and then being the only one actually following them, mostly because if you follow them, you get treated like this, whereas if you just blow them off, apparently that works out pretty well for you.* I don't like that. But ah, well, it didn't matter as much as it might've this time, since hardly anyone was there this weekend thanks to the morning wind and rain, and by 2pm the squalls had moved back in and flooded everyone out regardless. Still, it's grating.

Friday, I had more fun; Juanita Bay went well, I rawked the haus about as far as a non-stage/busking market haus can be rocked; I got some very nice comments, including one from a shopper coming in as I was going out, who was excited that I was there and then disappointed that he'd missed me. I told him I'd be back again when weather permitted and that when I play this market, it's always 3-5. Conveniently, I'd just floated the idea past management that I show up twice more in the three weeks they have left, weather permitting; they thought that was a fine idea.

Also, after my bit (while doing my own shopping), I tried to help someone I've never seen busking before try to build up her confidence enough that she could be heard. She was trying to busk at the opposite end of the market against the amplified band down at the beach, a joyless endeavour under the best of circumstances. I'm pretty sure she was just in high school; she was terrified of the whole thing, and clearly had spent a lot of time building up the nerves to try! A friend stood by, I suppose for moral support, which I hope helped. After I talked to her for a bit she got loud enough that I could at least hear her from a few feet away, even with the beach band. Small steps are still steps. ^_^

I'm looking forward to my October show in Seattle; it's run by the same general group that ran Lake City, earlier this summer, and that was a real and proper venue with audience seating, stage tent, and proper support, and I had a great time and a very good show. I've learned a lot in the last couple of months and would give a lot better show now, and I could use one of those. Particularly after days like today.

Anyway, tired now, bed. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

*: This is not the only such case.
