solarbird: (music)
The weather's no good and Anna won't be there, but Crime and the Forces of Evil - which is to say in this case me and my flutes - are going to play the Lake Forest Park Farmer's Market today, around 11:30, assuming it doesn't decide to rain. (The forecast says no rain. The website also says no conflicting events, so I'm hoping it's up to date. If there are conflicting events, I lose out.) It'll be a short gig, with me doing almost entirely my own music, probably twice each because I only have like six (...maybe seven...) songs of my own that are performance-ready. Don't worry, I won't be playing the same songs twice in a row. ^_^

You can show up for moral support, or for the nice little farmer's market.

So that was fun. I got started a little late, so just over two hours of performance doing stuff I've written plus Great Big Sea's "Goin' Up," about three times each, giving me a surprisingly long base time of 40-ish minutes. Also, I made a lot more money than Anna and I made a Folklife, which was a very pleasant surprise; I kept trying to cut off after an hour and a half, but people kept throwing me money and asking me to play more things, so of course I said "sure!" and kept going. Also, the market people liked me, and said next time I get the good spot under the tree. ^_^

Setlist, mostly in order of the first playthrough; all songs by me/Crime and the Forces of Evil unless noted:
"Leaffall" (Extended version)
「もののけ猫」(Spirit Cat) (Extended version)
「桜木町」 (Cherry Tree Train Station) (Extended version)
"Dream of an Incomplete Flute"
"Roadrunner"
"Thought You Knew"
"Goin' Up" (by Great Big Sea)
"Militant's Song" (Short version)
I was actively surprised that people liked "Roadrunner," but they did - it's really meant for a three-person performance, with two percussion instruments - but I got applause for it, so yay.

By the way, "Goin' Up" (as an instrumental) is a great song to play when you need a break without taking an actual break, because it's four chords no braining, and that's a big help. I handed out some cards, which is also good.

Next Lake Forest Park Farmer's Market gig: two weeks from today, 22 June 2008, weather permitting. It'll be awesome.
