Today's Cultural Warfare Update
Mar. 1st, 2007 10:35 amTraditional Values Coalition condemns Pastor Jim Wallis and the Soujourners, says "Liberals are the sworn enemies of religious Americans";
TVC jumps on the "mandatory" HPV vaccine condemnation bandwagon - conveniently ignoring - no, just lying about - the fact that the Texas action which got this started was not mandatory; you could opt out. TVC is more explicit than most at attacking women who get cervical cancer from HPV as sluts, though, saying "almost all cases of HPV could be prevented through responsible sexual behavior, including fidelity in marriage and abstinence outside of marriage";
Largo, Florida officials vote to dismiss city manager over gender reassignment - the charge was led by a local pastor, of course, who said that using her new name would "trample" fundamentalists' religious freedoms, which apparently require not using someone's legal name anymore if you don't like it; another local pastor said that Jesus would want her terminated;
Concerned Women for America's Matt Barber condemns Planned Parenthood again, this time for picking up on a shtick that anti-abortion activists have been using for a while already; co-branded cell phone service, so that if you sign up, part of your bill will go to support Planned Parenthood activities. CWA calls it "you make a call, we kill a baby" and "Dialing for Death," and says "every dropped-call will amount to a precious life spared;"
**** Red meat in audio form - transcribed for your convenience and visibility to search engines - from CWA's Matt Barber, comparing the Massachusetts school system and Federal Judge Mark Wolf to Joseph Goebbels and Nazi propaganda;
CWA's Jan LaRue wants massive enforsement against "obscenity" on t3h int4rw3bs, cranky at courts for striking down the Communications Decency Act, all for The Children, of course;
CWA condemns effort to form a new UN agency to focus on gender equality and women's empowerment;
CWA's Matt Barber in the Christian Post says it is "perfectly natural for people to be repelled by disordered sexual behaviors that are both unnatural, and immoral;" he uses the "disordered" and "unnatural" language in the transcription above, too;
Faith and Freedom Network ACTION ITEM against reciprocal benefits/domestic-parntership in Washington State;
FFN is supporting a couple of events with David Barton, one of the favourite historians/propogandists of the theoconservative movement; his main goal is to redefine all the American Founding Fathers as evangelical fundamentalists. He's been caught faking quotes several times, which he defends as having truthiness. Okay, that's not how he puts it, but you get the idea;
**** Canada Family Action Coalition figures out the "put the red meat in a video" shtick, slinging pedophila around; specifically, they're alleging that the Ontario court ruling a few months ago that three different people had parental involvement rights with a child (a married lesbian couple and the man who is the child's biological father) lets anyone become a parent, including "perhaps for sexual reasons;"
New York Times coverage of a theocon confab - they don't like any of the major candidates but don't think Brownback can pull in the donors needed;
Faith and Freedom Network hires ex-Dave Reichert Deputy Communications Director Jennifer Lee as their new Field Director;
In the UK, meanwhile, a Muslim Pakistani immigrant killed his wife their four daughters for being "too western;" this was contributed by somebody but I forget who, my apologies;
Faith and Freedom Network ACTION ITEM against Washington State bills supporting embryonic stem-cell research.
