solarbird: (not_in_the_mood)
Anybody trying to reach me by email can't right now, our mail server appears to have eaten itself. Hopefully it's just the power supply, but I don't know yet. Either get me in IM or reply to this, I'll check back here occasionally.

ETA: Back up now, things appear to be fine.
solarbird: (made her from parts)
Okay, brought newmoon off the rack, took the power supply out of the case - oh look, the fan's seized. Oh look, there are two capacitors that are distorted and you can see the interiour. That's not normal. Now, do we have one of these sitting around? Oh good, [livejournal.com profile] spazzkat's old junked PII/350 uses this kind of ps - only 230 watts, but it should do for now, this machine only has two HD in it and we don't use the CD-ROM or floppy for anything, and it's not close to topped out in RAM...

Mm, fan aye, lights aye, display aye, memory check aye, CPU aye, post aye, keyboard aye, drives aye, chkdsk... eventually... answering pings, and oh look, it's up. That wasn't so bad after all. Failure time sometime shortly after 3:20am 10 May 2006, from what syslog has to say:

May 10 03:17:01 newmoon /USR/SBIN/CRON[15920]: (xxxxx) CMD ( run-parts --report /etc/cron.hourly)
May 10 03:20:01 newmoon /USR/SBIN/CRON[15926]: (xxxxx) CMD (test -x /usr/share/sendmail/sendmail && /usr/share/sendmail/sendmail cron-msp)
May 10 03:20:01 newmoon /USR/SBIN/CRON[15928]: (xxxxx) CMD (/usr/bin/python -S /usr/local/mailman/cron/gate_news)
May 10 09:32:55 newmoon syslogd 1.4.1#17: restart.
