Does anybody in the Seattle area carry MREs? T3h intarw3b is not helping me. If not, can anybody suggest good equivalents? I'm trying to update [livejournal.com profile] annathepiper and my 3-day pack, which is due for its first big refreshing.

(Do you have a 3-day pack? Do you live on the west coast? The Red Cross says you should! But don't buy theirs, they suck.)

Also, annoyingly, Emergency Essentials - mail order, out of Utah - is completely out of stock of MRE main and side dishes, and their 3-day packs that use MREs are listed as backordered, will ship when available. I know that people serving in Iraq are not generally eating MREs - tho' of course I'm sure some also are... so I'm all like wtf, mate? Who the hell stages a run on MREs?

This is another photograph of that fern I posted as a late-in-year leafpic earlier; I like this one as general photography instead of leafpic, so am tagging it only as the former:

Fern by Railing

I know I promised more city pictures. Soon. Meanwhile, have another mushroom picture. I think this one came out much better than the last one I posted, even aside from the previous photo's weird focus issues:

On the Mountain Trail

It's not actually on any mountain trail, it's just on the way to the shops, near Cranky Parking Lady's house. But they look like a couple of people making their way up a hill. I have another one coming later that has a similar feel to it, in my head.

This meme is going around:

Name a CD you own that you think no one else on your friends list does: LUX Radio Theatre's production of The Adventures of Luke Skywalker, digitally remastered from the original 1944 shellac recordings.

Name a book you own that you think no one else on your friends list does: Urf. Too many. Grabbing one at semi-random: Through Harsh Winters: The Life of a Japanese Immigrant Woman, KIKUMURA Akemi, Chandler and Sharp Publishers, Novato, California, 1981.

Name a Movie/DVD/VHS that you think no one else on your friends list has: Babylon 5 pilot movie, original cut, on Japanese laserdisc. Never released in English. If that fails, somewhere I've got a copy of the Peter Pan and the Pirates two-part episode "Hook's Deadly Game" that the studio sent me as source material for an article I wrote an article about it.

Name a place that you have visited that you think no one else on your friends list has: Does it count if they went with you at the time? If it doesn't, then I've got no answer available. If it does, then, hum, Ailsa Craig, an island bird sanctuary halfway between Scotland and Ireland. We weren't allowed to set shore - it's generally prohibited - but we got a good look all around it by boat. I also took pictures. Here are someone else's photos, complete with pictures of the Waverly, the boat that got us there, out of Glasgow! You can see how close the Waverly gets. There were a lot fewer people onboard when we went out.

Name a tool/piece of technology that you think no one else on your friends list owns: I have a speciality glass cutter made in Japan that I bought for sculpture work. That'd probably be my best bet.

The "high wind watch" is now a "high wind WARNING," and tomorrow's WeatherMenu entry reads:
Damaging Wind, High 13
DAMAGING WIND yikes. 40mph sustained, 60mph gusts unless you're up into the Cascade foothlls, in which case sustained 50, gusts 75mph.

Here where we are, the winds are already picking up a lot. I'm glad our house is in a sheltered nook. Hopefully nothing will fall down on us!

ETA 12:15: I have never seen it rain this hard here. Ever. And oh look, a power hit! First of the night. Here's hoping we're still up in the morning!
