Today was the first of many convention work days. CascadiaCon, the Seattle NASFiC, is the beginning of next month, I'm still looking for writers - tho' I do have a couple of people on board, at last - and I'm updating the FaxCascadia design set. I really want to do something with the map, in particular. Not sure what, yet. But something large, graphic, and eye-catching. The previous time I ran with the FaxCascadia concept, part of the conceit was that Norwescon was also a Cascadian Worldcon - this time, it's for a NASFiC, but that part's real. Which is cool. ^_^

I've been writing up and fleshing out the history that created the independent Republic of Cascadia - I'm keeping the alternate-history welcome-to-Cascadia theme - and that's been kind of fun. I even thought about doing a CIA World Book entry, but that's probably a bit much, given how much I have to do this month - I've got to finish all the work at MurkSouth, which isn't difficult but does take time; I've got to pull together all this convention stuff; I've got to bring some work in for an art exhibition jury, if I can; plus all the normal things that keep me kind of busy. And there'll be [livejournal.com profile] annathepiper's thyroid surgery. (Joy.)

Really, I'm kind of looking forward to the end of August.

Monday miles: 2.0
Tuesday's miles: 1.85
Miles out of Hobbiton: 308.2
Miles to Rivendell: 150.1

Monday's are actually biking miles, not walking miles, despite being only two - but this is the first time I've done the mile uphill from the Lake Forest Park downtown entirely without stopping. Tuesday's miles were a walk to find Linwood Park, and a walking-route through it, which failed. It's .7 miles to the southern tip of the park, though, and there's a dirt trail through it wandering north. We didn't find a way all the way through to the tiny part that's developed, though. (There's one little bit at the north edge that has a playground; the rest is forest, with lots of ivy and blackberry undergrowth, as well as some natives.)

I didn't take any pictures, but that's okay, we didn't really come across anything hugely interesting. I did see some nice blackberries, though, and ate some of the ripest of same! Mmmmm, tasty. And I met a very nice golden retriever who wanted skitching that I was happy to provide. ^_^

Here's today's flower picture - it's been a while since I've posted something extravagant, so have this, taken along the north path:

Also, here's a bonus neighbourhood architecture picture; I really like how you can see through the two buildings that share the common roof, and the little glimpse of iron railing beyond. And I'm fond of the way the wall frames it out.
