newmoon is throwing unrecoverable disk errors.

No new mail for anyone after about 6:30am this morning. Some filesystem damage, but not in home and so far not in /var. More updates later.

newmoon update

Did more testing; there are hard errors all across root. The partition table looks okay but there are errors in /dev (?!) so I don't know how much has been lost. I'm offering no guarantees of mail spool recovery, though I don't know of any specific issues. /home looks okay so far, but no promises.

Anna and I ran down to Fry's for an assortment of bits. I've got a new drive and am formatting it for ext2 now before reinstalling the OS.

Lost data all over the place. These mail spools are known to have been corrupted:

nobilis

Your inboxes are broken and data has been lost from them. Sorry, I couldn't do any better. Most of it seems to be there, for what that's worth.

We've lost at least some mailing list data, and, of course, all the mailing lists are down. Hopefully some will be back up Real Soon Now - meaning Sunday evening.

But newmoon is back up, and because we'd just gotten done restoring lodestone to service, all the accounts should be in place just as before. (The /home partition seems to have been spared - I've copied it all over to the new drive.)

newmoon service may be spotty over the next couple of days as I work stuff out, possibly with violence.
