This last weekend really let me figure some things out with the workshop situation, I think.

The southern shop at the old place - my original shop when I lived there - is going to be the "large work" shop, where things like a table saw and a router are appropriate. It used to be my only shop, except for electronics, and I planned on not having a shop up here at all because I was so sick of and burned out on house restoration.

But as I eased back in to making over time here - and I never left electrics behind - I started having some need for electrics-related slightly-larger-objects making. Hence setting up the little shop in the basement a few years ago.

So the basement shop here is going to be the "small work" shop, where I need to do things that create dust and loudness and possibly chemicals, but which aren't big enough to merit a trip south. And the upstairs sewing/electronics/printing desk is the tiny-works shop, for things small enough to be 3D printed and soldered and things like that.

What this means is that it's now less "redundant shops" and more "special purpose shops" which plays a lot - and I mean a lot - more nicely in my head. 3D printing and electronics on the electronics and sewing desk upstairs, shop-like stuff that isn't table-saw/table-router sized stuff downstairs, and large-objects working at Murkworks South.

Of course there'll be overlap and sometimes tools will be ported from one place to another, and that's fine.

Obviously, it'd probably be nicest to be able to have all this stuff in one place! But I just don't have that kind of space. Even the largest space - the South shop - is pretty cramped. When I say it's big enough for a table saw, I mean in that "just barely" sense, and as table saws go, it's really small. I built a wheeled platform for it so it could be moved into usable positions, for example. And the table router is in a similar state, but without wheels - it's small enough just to haul around without that.

But this will let me reorganise that shop in a meaningful way, I think - maybe enough that I can even have either the table router or the table saw in usable positions all the time!

Honestly? That'd be kind of amazing.
