Trump administration rescinds rule on foreign students
By COLLIN BINKLEY

https://www.seattletimes.com/nation-world/nation-politics/judge-to-hear-arguments-in-challenge-to-foreign-student-rule/

BOSTON (AP) — Facing eight federal lawsuits and opposition from hundreds of universities, the Trump administration on Tuesday rescinded a rule that would have required international students to transfer or leave the country if their schools held classes entirely online because of the pandemic.

The decision was announced at the start of a hearing in a federal lawsuit in Boston brought by Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. U.S. District Judge Allison Burroughs said federal immigration authorities agreed to pull the July 6 directive and “return to the status quo.”

A lawyer representing the Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said only that the judge’s characterization was correct.

The announcement brings relief to thousands of foreign students who had been at risk of being deported from the country, along with hundreds of universities that were scrambling to reassess their plans for the fall in light of the policy.

Not for nothing, but Trump using the Rose Garden to give a campaign speech assailing Biden is definitely illegal and his campaign owes the taxpayers a lot of money for this event.

South Dakota Is Sharing Driver's License Info To Help Find Out Who's A Citizen

https://www.npr.org/2020/07/14/890798378/south-dakota-is-sharing-drivers-license-info-to-help-find-out-who-s-a-citizen

To help figure out the U.S. citizenship status of every adult living in the country, the Trump administration has been accumulating driver's license information from states including South Dakota, NPR has learned.

South Dakota Public Safety Secretary Craig Price — who was appointed to President Trump's commission on law enforcement earlier this year — signed an agreement in April to share information from driver's licenses and state ID cards with the U.S. Census Bureau, according to a copy of the memorandum of understanding the state's department of public safety provided to NPR.

Over the past year since the Trump administration failed in its attempt to add the now-blocked citizenship question to 2020 census forms, the Census Bureau has been gathering state and federal records under directives from Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, who oversees the bureau, and an executive order Trump issued last July.

In addition to allowing states to redistrict using the number of citizens old enough to vote, Trump's executive order noted that the citizenship data could assist the government in generating a "more reliable count of the unauthorized alien population in the country."

Last year, Nebraska became the first state to agree to transfer data from driver's license and state ID records to the bureau. Some states have publicly refused to hand over data.

Fact check: Trump makes at least 19 false or misleading claims in wild anti-Biden monologue

Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump has long been fond of turning supposedly official events into de facto campaign rallies. Even by his own standards, though, his Tuesday speech was extreme.

Speaking in the White House Rose Garden, at what was billed as a "press conference" in which he would give remarks about China, Trump delivered a rambling 52-minute monologue filled with pre-scripted attacks on Democratic opponent Joe Biden.

As usual, Trump's comments were filled with egregious lies and other false claims. We haven't yet had a chance to comb through the entire transcript, but here is a list of the 19 false or misleading claims we have counted so far:

Trump said of an Obama-era housing rule meant to address racial segregation: "You're going to abolish the suburbs with this."

Facts First: This is nonsense. (To be specific, it is racially coded nonsense.) Diversifying or integrating suburbs does not abolish suburbs.

Robert Maginnis Ranks Barack Obama, George Soros Among ‘Satan’s Greatest Human Proxies’

Family Research Council senior fellow and right-wing conspiracy theorist Robert Maginnis appeared on “The Jim Bakker Show” yesterday to promote his latest book, “Collision Course: The Fight to Reclaim Our Moral Compass Before It Is Too Late.”

During the interview, Maginnis said that a chapter in his book exposes “Satan’s greatest human proxies,” among whom he includes former President Barack Obama and billionaire philanthropist George Soros.

Among “Satan’s proxies” in history, Maginnis named Mao Zedong, Joseph Stalin, and Adolf Hitler. But among “today’s modern proxies of Satan, people that are true anti-Christs,” Maginnis named North Korea’s Kim Jong-un, China’s Xi Jinping, and George Soros.

“I would argue in our culture today, George Soros—who of course funds antifa and Black Lives Matter and other radical groups—is a major Antichrist,” Maginnis said.

The Violent Politics Behind Karenism

One of the most common forms of racism in our country is what’s called the short leash.

The short leash has to do with policing perceived faults of women or minorities, and it’s what you see in those viral videos of Karens calling the cops on black Americans for the heinous crimes of bird-watching or sitting on their own front porch.

The idea behind the short leash is essentially this: a member of a minority can be tolerated and ignored if they shut up and know their place. However, the moment a minority gets involved in any form of conflict, that underrepresented group gets the harshest treatment imaginable, regardless of whether they’re at fault.

The short leash is what a double standard looks like in the moment. It’s also what happens when you see people point to the potential criminal record of black Americans like George Floyd or Eric Garner to justify their murder. As if the correct punishment for selling cigarettes is that you’re allowed to get choked to death in broad daylight.

Karens use their level of privilege as a shield for their worst behavior, screaming for the social permission to harm others.

Fox Guest: Teachers Unions Are Grooming Kids For Sex Predators, Training Them In “Anti-American Ideology”
July 15, 2020

https://www.joemygod.com/2020/07/fox-guest-teachers-unions-are-grooming-kids-for-sex-predators-training-them-in-anti-american-ideology/

“The unions are using the closure of our schools as a smokescreen. Laura, here’s why. Sadly, these unions are actually using our schools to sexualize our children and to train them in anti-American ideology.

“They do this with a coalition of over 180 organizations, including, sadly, the CDC, Planned Parenthood, and Black Lives Matter incorporated.

“It is shocking what they’re teaching our children online through virtual learning. They are teaching our children to sext, to view pornography. They are hooking them up with online sex experts.

“So, what they are doing is grooming our children for sexual predators to use them. This is child abuse. I have an editorial about this tomorrow online in The Washington Times, people can read and learn all the details.

With Trump, invective obscures his policy messages
By Eli Stokols, Noah Bierman
July 15, 2020

Throughout American history, incumbent presidents have typically run for a second term by highlighting policy accomplishments. But President Trump is far from typical — uniquely disinterested in most policy matters and, instead, focused intensively on personal grievances and political quarrels.

...

Instead of stressing that, however, the White House spent a good part of the day dealing with a controversy set off by an op-ed column in which Trump’s trade advisor, Peter Navarro, slammed Dr. Anthony Fauci, the government’s top infectious disease expert.

Fauci “has been wrong about everything I have interacted with him on,” Navarro said in his column in USA Today, which appeared online Tuesday night.

White House officials tried to distance the president from the column. Deputy press secretary Alyssa Farah tweeted that it “didn’t go through normal White House clearance processes and is the opinion of Peter alone.” Trump, she continued, “values the expertise of the medical professionals advising his Administration.”

But there’s little doubt that Navarro’s broadside reflected — and appealed to — the president’s own frustration with Fauci, who has not been invited to the Oval Office to brief Trump since early June.

According to one administration official, who was not authorized to speak on the record, Navarro had the president’s permission to write the column.

“Not only was he authorized by Trump, he was encouraged,” the official said.

White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows denied that.
