Lots of white supremacy and lower-level politics, and also a long and slow route towards denying LGBT people health care has made its way though process. Plus another dictatorship sees a power vacuum and opportunity.

Meghan McCain fact-checked by neighbor after claiming her neighborhood ‘is eviscerated and looks like a war zone’

“The View” co-host Meghan McCain took to Twitter Tuesday to say that her neighborhood in Manhattan was “eviscerated” by protesters and “looks like a war zone.”
The problem, however, is that McCain’s neighbors don’t agree.
“Full Frontal” chief writer Kristen Bartlett lives in McCain’s same building and fact-checked the TV host, saying that she just went outside and everything looked “fine.”
McCain spoke out against NFL player Colin Kaepernick’s protest kneeling during the “National Anthem.” She argued it was disrespecting the flag and America, only to be shouted down by her Black colleague, Sunny Hostin, who explained that it has nothing to do with the flag or the anthem.
“Think about the Milwaukee Bucks player, Sterling Brown, who was tased for doing nothing by the police,” she added. “This country terrorizes African-American men at a bigger rate than white men. If I want to kneel because I don’t think America is as great as she can be, I don’t think America has lived up to the promise of the flag, that means I am just as American as you are when you stand in homage to your parents’ service.”

State Sen. Randy Feenstra defeated incumbent Rep. Steve King in Tuesday's Republican primary for Iowa's 4th congressional district, according to the Cook Political Report.
Why it matters: King's history of racist remarks has made him one of the most controversial politicians in the country and a pariah within the Republican Party.

[CONTINUES]
EO 20-29 states that ASP “may assume command and operational control in such jurisdictions it deems necessary.”
The order also calls on the Adjutant General of the State of Arkansas to “call and order into active service such portions of the organized militia.”

Durkan says she 'reached out' to Seattle police union, community leaders

Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan said she has “reached out’’ to the city’s police union and community leaders to explore bringing them together in an attempt to resolve lingering differences on police accountability.
“I do think there is a way to do that,” Durkan said in public remarks Tuesday. “We need to have those kinds of meaningful conversations and have a reconciliation process between officers and community.”
But Durkan has declined to say whether she would consider withdrawing or pausing the city’s recent request to a U.S judge to clear the way for lifting eight years of federal oversight of the Seattle Police Department, as some have demanded.
The city’s motion, citing the need to recognize the department’s efforts to address excessive use of force and biased policing and shift resources to the coronavirus crisis, drew moderate criticism when it was filed last month.
But since then, the issue has been swept up in the torrent of national outrage over the killing of George Floyd, a Black man killed by a white police officer in Minnesota.
Durkan was asked by a Seattle Times reporter on Monday if she would consider withdrawing the request to allow community leaders and the Seattle Police Officers Guild the opportunity to seek consensus on police accountability measures.
She called the proposal a “good idea,” but did not address whether she might withdraw the motion pending community talks.

SEOUL, June 4 (Yonhap) -- North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's powerful sister threatened Thursday scrap a military tension reduction agreement with South Korea and completely shut down other major cross-border exchange unless Seoul takes action against anti-Pyongyang leaflets sent into the communist nation.
Kim Yo-jong, first vice department director of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, issued the warning in a statement, adding that good faith and reconciliation can never go together with such hostile activities.
"Clearly speaking, the South Korean authorities will be forced to pay a dear price if they let this situation go on while making sort of excuses," she said in the statement carried by the Korean Central News Agency.
