I put the lights back up last night, with some help from Anna. I had to pull one socket off the string entirely and wire around it, but that's okay - we're still missing one of the kooshball things anyway, so now that brings the numbers into line. There were also a couple of bulbs which just seem to have failed on their own, which indicates that these bulbs are totally for shit.

In fact, by this morning, two strand halves were out again, but it wasn't anybody's doing - another bulb had burned out, and a second had come loose. Fortunately, I finally figured out that a continuity tester also makes a good bulb tester, so it didn't take nearly as long to find them this time.

I'm kind of hoping that ordinary strand bulbs will work with this system, because I even ph33r the included replacement bulbs - at least one of them has been bad, too! And it's a shame, because when they're working, it's all really pretty. Hm. What to do.
