Rachel Maddow has figured out at least some of the GOP plan I described back on April 21st.

She's seeing the donor networks and GOP apparatus ramping up to fight state efforts to control COVID-19. But she isn't yet there on the intent to discredit pandemic control efforts through sabotage, so the GOP can/will say, "See? It never worked anyway, and the entire shutdown was INTENTIONAL DEMOCRAT SABOTAGE OF THE ECONOMY to DEFEAT DONALD TRUMP."

Or, at least, she's not willing to say it yet.

Push is going to come to shove when these GOP donor/party networks start getting cases to Trumpist judges, with Barr/Justice Department support. If they start getting "wins" regardless of precedent or law, states that don't want 5-6% death rates are going to have to say "okay, you made the ruling; let's see you enforce it."

And that's when the shit will really hit the fan, because at that point, either you have a completely failed Federal state, or you have a Federal government that'll send in the army or something, and then you also have a failed Federal state, but in a very different way.

2020's just getting started, kids.

Well crap - I think people are not foolish to be worried about the possibility of a civil war if 45 loses (since he's almost certain to call for something like armed insurrection in a barely deniable fashion to avoid legal trouble), but in that case I'm fairly certain that the only result would be an uptick in domestic terrorism rather than anything remotely like a civil war.

OTOH, what you just described could actually result in a full on civil war - I very much hope things don't come to that (shudder).

I've been worrying about that prospect from that Damned Moment in 2016. The other would be him going Full Fascist. (As if he hasn't already been moving down that road?)
