Zoe, so far.
Oct. 30th, 2002 10:05 pmSo far Zoe likes:
...spaghetti
...chicken
...bananas
...apples
...seeds of every kind (this is bad)
...ANYTHING sweet or salty (this is also bad)
...cheese
...the puzzle toy. This is good, as it's the first time she's played with a toy so far. (The previous owners didn't allow her any, because she ripped them up. Hello, she's a parrot.)
...muttering "you're gonna wake him up," "he'll kill you," and imitating someone's laugh. Also, she barks. I think they must have had a yappy dog at the old house. We've also caught her going "brawk brawk brawk BA-GAWK!" so we're wondering whether somebody's grandchildren had a farm-animal noisemaker. She might be saying a couple of other things, but we can't figure them out. Mostly, she mutters.
...popcorn and kettlecorn, except as below
...bread
...spray-baths
..."trail mix" nutragrain bars.
...climbing as high as she can in her cage and pecking at the top.
Zoe hates:
...Polly (or at least isn't fond)
...rice crackers, unless they're the sugary kind, at which point they're the best thing ever that she has in her claws right now.
...the shiny spin toy (but she seems to be getting better about it)
...fingers touching the bars of her cage. (Oddly, fingers inside the cage don't seem to be as bad.)
...people paying attention to Polly when they're near Zoe's cage.
...the new good pellet food that I'm trying to transition her to so she doesn't die of fatty limphona when she's 15 like she will if I keep her on the all-seed diet the previous owners had her on.
...the FedEx guy.
...the super-assured-bird-safe popcorn from the pet store. Oh well, back to
...egg noodles (this is kind of a surprise).
...cooked carrots
...cooked celery
...onion
...me walking into the kitchen (and out of sight). Sorry, Zoe!
She's generally looking better, I think. She's really cranky about the whole pellet thing. I hope she gets it figured out pretty quickly. I'm carefully following a method recommended by the Seattle Parrot Market rehabilitation specialist. (He wrote a book that I bought; it comes with a support hotline on an 800 number.) I'm so relieved that she likes spray-baths; I was not looking forward to trying to bathe an angry, hostile parrot.
